July July July

We got back over the weekend and I fully intended to go back to work on Monday, July 3rd, but while I was on vacation I found out that they actually made it another holiday.  So I didn't go back to work until Wednesday, July 5th.  I was off almost two full weeks.  It felt like forever and was hard to go back!

The kids started another week of camp on July 3rd and since I paid for it, I went ahead and sent them. They did Imprints again.  This theme was wild about nature.   They went to Sci Works and to Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury.

Tuesday was July 4th and I was off but Drew decided to work.  He had missed a lot of days and didn't want to miss another one.  He was home earlier in the afternoon which was nice.  We had our church friends over.  We played with some little fireworks in the driveway and then we walked to the end of the street to see the town fireworks.  They were at the park across the street from our neighborhood.  They weren't bad and sure were convenient to our house.  It's the first time we've been home since moving to this house to go see them.  We normally go to my parents', but since we had just spent a week away with them, I wasn't going anywhere.

Lindy had an audiology and ENT appointment on Wednesday afternoon of that week.  She got her yearly hearing test, checked hearing aids and then to ENT for yearly checkup.  All went well and nothing has changed.

We ended up going to Raleigh on Wednesday night as well.  The mother of one of my best friends, Anita, passed away on July 3rd.  I couldn't go to the funeral the following day but I wasn't going to miss the visitation and chance to hug Anita.  Drew offered to go with me so his mom watched the kids. I'm glad he ended up going because we drove through a crazy rain storm on the way home.  Anita's mom, Diane, was a great mama and even better grandmother to Anita and her girls.  She had a relatively short battle with cancer and that took them all by surprise.  She is missed and I feel for Anita often on how she is going through life without her mom.  That would be hard.

July 8th was an exciting day for our family and the city of Winston-Salem.  Aunt Jamie and her company opened a new bookstore in downtown WS.  We went to the grand opening that morning and then out to lunch with the family.  Jamie has always dreamed of her own bookstore so this is exciting for her.  And even more exciting that she didn't have to put up her own money for it! ha!

The second week of July brought new camps for the kids.  Lindy started her beloved SEE camp and Will tried a new camp this summer, Lego Robotics, at a new location.  He went the same week as his friend, Luke, so he thought that was pretty cool.  They served lunch at this camp, which I thought was pretty cool!  I only had to make one lunch that week.   He really enjoyed the camp so we'll probably do another one there next summer.

Lindy was supposed to start bright and early on the 10th but she had a PT appointment that morning at 9am to get her new braces we had molded two months prior. It was the only time that worked.  We picked those up and then got her to camp.  July was the month that they were in different camps for three weeks, with different start and end times that were usually in the middle of the afternoon.  It was quite a logistical nightmare, one I couldn't have managed without Mimo.  She did a lot of pick ups for me over the three weeks and I really appreciated the help.

We caught up with friends the second week of July as well.  We had dinner one night with Mike and Janice at the old ice cream shop by our old house.  We had just seen Mike but it was good to see Janice.  Then another night we had dinner with Ms. Martha.  Always good to see both our old friends and rare that we do it in the same week!

The second week of July, Lindy was back to SEE camp and Will went back to Imprints camp.  Will's theme was a taste of WS.  We thought it was going to be about food, but it was more like site seeing in WS.  They went out tours of WS two different days.  They rode all over town looking at things that are unique to WS.  The big field trip that week was to the pool at Tanglewood Park. I've always avoided letting them go to any pools with summer camps because I wasn't comfortable with that.  They are much better swimmers and someone at camp explained the system at Tanglewood. I've never been but it sounds like a big place with lots to do.   The kids have to take a swim test and prove they can swim to get out of the splash pad area.  If they get a yellow band they can then go to the lazy river and small water slides.  If they get a green then they can also go to the big pool.  They moved around in groups with a counselor.  Will did pass the swim test and got a green band.  He said it was a fun place and he was exhausted that evening.   Lindy didn't have SEE camp on Fridays so she stayed with Mimo each Friday.  Mimo and Aunt Anna took her for a special girls' day which she enjoyed.

The final week of July was Lindy's last week of SEE camp and Will's tennis camp at the park across the street.  Will had the best week ever for tennis camp.  It was a really strange and not hot week at the end of July.  He couldn't have gotten luckier.  The first day I had to pick him up early for the kids' dentist appointment.  Thankfully they both had good reports.  The last day, Thursday, my boss actually picked him up for me.  It was also the last day of Lindy's SEE camp and they were putting on a play, The Lion King, at the same time he needed to be picked up.  My boss saved the day.  She brought him back to the office so we could go see Lindy be Shenzi the hyena in the play.  She did a great job!  She knew all her lines, and she actually had a good bit of them.  The whole play was great!

Will's best buddy, Ben, and his family moved to GA in July.  This was their last time together.

We tore down the swing set we got when the kids were 2.  It was actually a little bit sad!  End of an era!
Drew was sad to throw away all the nuts and bolts that went with it.  He spent one very long night 8 years ago sorting those nuts and bolts!
We stopped by the kids' pictures at the Cookie House at the mall.

We got super sad news the end of July - our friend, Cory, from one of out past churches died from a heart attack.  He was 27.  We were just devasted to hear this news.  He went to WCU and bought the kids these shirts a couple years ago.  They were (and still are) too big but I had to pull them out for a picture.  I'm so sad he never got to see them in these shirts.
