Short Snow Week

I was right when I said it would be a short week.  The kids were out of school on Monday and Tuesday and had a two hour delay on Wednesday!!  The kids had school on Friday, Jan. 15th and finally went back to school on Wednesday, Jan. 27th.  Whoa!  Another winter break for them!

They were all excited for no snow but it was an awful week for me for the kids to be out.  I had a lot going on at work and I couldn't stay home with them or work from home.  So they came with me to work for two days.  Shockingly they were so good at work.  Such long days and they were awesome.  We kept busy with a new reading app we got, we did their Valentines, and they had some screen time.  It went by much faster than any of us dreamed.

We did have a small break from the office on Tuesday.  Lindy had an appointment to get an ear mold made and get her hearing aid checked on at 12:45pm.  We have had problems all fall with her right ear.  She's had swimmer's ear (an outer ear infection) off and on all fall.  Which means she has not worn that hearing aid consistently.  We have never had this problem.  I was sick of it so we made a new ear mold.  While she was out of school I had it out to heal but when I went to put it back in, the hearing aid sounded awful.  Her audiologist said she couldn't fix it and would have to send it off for $200.  Her hearing aids are past the point most people have them and I wasn't sure if spending $200 was the best thing to do.  We've been talking to her audiologist about new ones so I think we are going that route.  It can't be easy though, our insurance doesn't cover them.  Instead of spending $4-$5K on them, we are going to apply to a program at UNC-Chapel Hill.  We will see if we get accepted and if we do they help pay the price of them.  Fingers crossed!  After that appointment we hopped one door down and went to PT.  She did fine at her appointment and Jill does not think she needs to be seeing her regularly.  We made a summer appointment for new braces.  She put Kiniseology tape on her because I had some issues with the wraps we've been using.  I liked the kiniseology tape much better.  It stayed on for days and didn't cover her whole legs.  They did hurt a bit coming off but I thought they were much better.  We need to look into getting it for her.  It is supposed to help pull her hips out.   She got to roller skate which she did well with.  She started with one foot only and then two.  She only fell once but it was fun to see her trying to roller skate!

The rest of the week was much more normal.  We had a lazy Friday night.  We were all tired after trying to get back in the swing of things.  Saturday we went out for lunch in downtown and walked around a little bit.  I did a little shopping in the afternoon and then we headed out to eat that night with Mimo, Ed and Jamie.  Molly watched the kids while we were gone.  We had a great dinner out.  We went to the one steakhouse in town and it was packed.  We got there before 6pm and waited 1.5 hours!  Thankfully it was good and worth it!

Today we had church and then we divided and conquered our grocery shopping for the month.  Drew and Lindy headed to Sam's and Krispy Kreme (not on the list) and Will and I hit Aldi's and Walmart.  I know he doesn't love shopping but I enjoyed our time together!

That's a wrap on the week.  Not many pictures this week.

Getting a new ear mold made.
She likes playing with the extra pink stuff.

What a Week

This week was a complete bust - in more ways than one!

We started the week with that awesome thing on Monday - my birthday! ha! The kids and I were off from school because of my birthday Martin Luther King day.

The kids also had Tuesday off because of a teacher work day at the end of the 2nd quarter.  what what - the 2nd quarter is already over?  Half of 2nd grade is over?  Scary!  Lynn came to the rescue and came over to keep the kids while we adult types went to work.   It worked out well that they were off because Lindy was still under the weather from her cold.  I was glad she got another day to stay home.

And then she got another day to stay home on Wednesday - unexpectedly.  Will woke up at 6:30am - 10 mins before his alarm.  He came out, walked right past us and went to the fridge and started guzzling his water bottle.  I asked him if he was okay and once he stopped guzzling he said "I'm really thirsty" and then he puked the water he had just guzzled.  Uh oh.  Not what I had planned for our day.  I knew he couldn't go to school and I didn't really want to have to take Will with me to take Lindy to school.  I had no clue how sick Will was going to be.  Kind of by default she got another day home to get over her cold.  Will ended up throwing up 3 times.  The last time was 9am.  It was super weird.  He kept down toast from 7:30am-9am and so I thought he was okay.  Then he got sick.  He finally started snacking around noon and he kept it all down.  It was kind of strange.  As the day went on it was obvious he was getting Lindy's cold.  The snot started flowing and he went from one illness to another.  Tough day for the boy!

Wednesday night we got a little dusting of snow.   About the same as last Sunday but this time our temps had been really cold, so it stuck to the roads.

SO....school was cancelled on Thursday.  What?  I was a little surprised but they said there were icy roads out there.  I had worked from home all day Wednesday but I knew the kids and I needed a break on Thursday.  We headed to work around lunchtime and Mimo met us there and took the kids home with her.  Drew picked them up later that afternoon.  I ended up working super late because we were trying to get everything done before the snowpocalypse happened.

We were predicted to have a major snowstorm starting in the middle of the night Thursday night and lasting all Friday and Saturday.  Some people were predicting 8-12" of snow.  So school was a bust for Friday as were those snow totals predictions.  We woke up to some snow on the ground and then in turned to sleet and sleeted the rest of the day.  We ended up with a few inches of snow/sleet mixture.  Nothing like they were talking about.  I'd have rather had snow than the sleet.  I worked most of the day while Drew and the kids had the day off.  Drew's office was even shut down.  Although the area he works in definitely got more than we did.  We went out after lunch for a little while but the wind was really cold and the sleet kind of hurt when it was blowing at you.  We invited the neighbor girl over to play so the kids had fun with her.  Her parents came over for a little while as well.  We ate dinner after they left and had a lazy night.

It was another cold windy day on Saturday but that didn't keep us inside.  We went out once to play and then we took a walk around the neighborhood with the neighbor and daughter.  It was cold by the time we got home.  Saturday night we watched a movie and took it easy.

The main roads were starting to look good yesterday but most secondary roads hadn't been plowed so church was cancelled this morning.  Around lunchtime we headed out to eat and then went to Target.  It was nice to get out of the house.  I walked the neighborhood with Aiden this morning and it was the first time the sun had been out since Wednesday.  We've watched football all afternoon while doing laundry.

And guess what - school is already cancelled for tomorrow.  grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  The kids didn't go to school at all last week and this week will be a short week too.  We shall see how short!

Pics of our snow adventures!

Wednesday morning when poor buddy was sick.  Aiden kept him company.
 Pretty girl!
 Playing in the snow!

The one who has had the most fun in the snow has been Aiden!  He has loved it every time we've gone out to play.  He's been out there playing with us.  He has gone out a bunch actually but loves it most when we are out there.  He can get running so fast in our back  yard!
 The snow monster!
He was having a blast playing with us.
Post Aiden attack!  Will thought it was funny!

 Snowball fight!  He got Drew!!
 Trying to get me!

Back out on Saturday - pretending to be a Husky dog.
He found an icicle on our walk.
Staying warm with hot chocolate.  Which, incidentally, Lindy threw up after this because she drank her glass and her brother's.  Post snow, hot chocolate barfing.  Good times.

 Our snowy house.
 Loving life!
This girl could eat her weight in snow.  I told them the snow in the trampoline was the only snow they could eat now with a dog in the backyard!

 Beautiful sunset last night!
She headed back out tonight because she was afraid it will be all gone tomorrow.

My Birthday!!

I spent my last week in my 38th year last week and I celebrated my 39th birthday on Monday.  I certainly don't feel 39.  I'm not sure how it happened and the next number I turn is a little scary to think about.  But I love my birthday and I'm glad it comes around each year!!

Back to the beginning of the week.  I had a family advisory council meeting on Monday night.  I met Drew at Sam's Club to hand off the kids.  The rest of the week was a normal week.  I got about 7 inches of hair cut off on Wednesday.

Lindy had a semi fun project due last week.  They were studying economics and her teacher wanted them to cook something for all the other second graders to come eat.  They had to make 50 of something.  50?  That's a lot!  I came up with the idea of puppy chow which really is easy and so perfect for the dog lover!  Bagging the suckers was the most time consuming project.  We had a little help from our friends and we got it knocked out.  We worked on it multiple nights last week as she also had to write down ever ingredient and its price.  She had fun at the cafĂ©, giving out her bags.  She only had 2 left.  Will enjoyed getting to go to her class and eating all the foods.  They got to pick 7 or 8 snacks.  That's a lot!  Will said lots of his friends came up and told him Lindy's puppy chow was good!

Friday night we played a wild game of Life.  Will got it for Xmas and we hadn't played it with him yet.  It has the electronic banking and debit cards and it is super cool.  So much easier than doling out money!  It got long but we finished.  Lindy, who was half heartedly interested in it, won.  She retired first with hubby and twins and other son.  She only cared about getting babies in the game!

Saturday we had a lazy day around the house doing chores before the Chiefs football game.  Drew was on call and actually got called out so he was gone most of the afternoon.  We watched the football game and were sad about the outcome.  I really really thought the stars were aligning for all the KC sports teams to win the big games this year.  Oh how I wanted that to happen.

Sunday we had our first snowfall of the year!!  It was beautiful and covered our grass, but not our roads.  The perfect snow.  I made the kids go outside when we got up because we didn't know how long it would last.  People came to church so that was good!  Drew had a funeral in the afternoon and I watched football games while cleaning up the house.

Sunday night I had a birthday party!  A bunco birthday party!  I had never played before and I've always wanted to, so we got it together this year!  We had a blast!  I think everyone did actually!  We had lasagna for dinner, played a round, had cake and finished with one more round.  The kids had Micah and Claire to play with so they were happy.  Next time I want them to play because I think they'd like it.  It was the perfect birthday party - exactly what I wanted!

Monday was my birthday and 3 of the 4 of us had a really lazy day at home.  The kids and I had the day off of work and school.  Lindy had started coming down with a cold on Sunday so we just did nothing.  I let them have too much screen time while I finished a book I'd been reading.  Hey, it was my birthday.  We finally got around in the afternoon but still took it easy.  We headed  over to dinner in Winston for my birthday dinner.  We met Drew, my parents, Lynn and Bob at Arigato, a Japanese steakhouse.  We hadn't been to one in so long and the kids had never been to one.   We had a blast!  We had a great chef who had fun picking on my dad and Bob.  He picked with Will too and somehow got him to eat shrimp, zucchini and onions.  We might eat there every night!  Bob opened his big mouth to tell them it was my birthday so I got some singing and drum playing.  It was a really fun evening we all enjoyed!
Lindy was into baby dolls for a day.
Chef Lindy and her puppy chow bag!
 Snow!!  Even Aiden enjoyed it!
So cool that I caught the falling snow!
 A snowflake on Lindy! ha!

Of course my girl had to wear her snowflake dress to church.  I love this dress!

 Handsome boy!
My birthday party!  Drew made my yummy cake!

I only got a couple pics because we were busy playing bunco.
