Lindy’s Special Day

Today we celebrated Lindy’s coming home from the hospital two years ago.  She actually came home two years ago tomorrow  (Dec. 19th) but due to Christmas plans tomorrow, we celebrated today.

Lindy’s special treat was a trip to the Little Gym in Greensboro.  That was the closet one to us so we went to check it out.  I was hoping that you could just pay for a class whenever you want but instead you have to pay for a membership.  But they give new people a free introductory class so we did that today.  The kids LOVED the Little Gym!  They had so much fun crawling all over everything!  They really did have a great time and even the teacher commented on how smiley they were!

After our class was over we ran a couple of errands in Greensboro (including snagging the ever elusive Zhu-Zhu pets for my sister) and headed back towards home.  We had plans to take Lindy out to lunch and then get her a McDonalds hot fudge sundae but on our way back to Winston it started sleeting and snowing.  Instead we just ended up getting lunch from McDonalds and heading home.  Us southern people don’t like to drive in the snow!  I ended up having to feed the kids in the car on the way home because there was so much traffic and the traffic was going slow.  Lindy ate her special day lunch in the car.  Oh well.  She also decided she didn’t want many chicken selects and only wanted French Fries.  On a normal day I would not allow this, but hey, it was her special day!  We finally made it home and we let the kids play in the snow a little bit. It was too cold to stay outside very long though.  We came inside and the kids got to have their hot fudge sundaes which were huge hits.

I had big plans to go out to dinner and go look at Christmas lights but it snowed like crazy all afternoon.  The roads are now covered and we didn’t venture out again.  Instead I made Little Miss a pizza, another favorite of hers.  I hope she enjoyed her special day.  She doesn’t have a clue why we were celebrating today but we still want to celebrate her.  Two years ago Drew spent a horrible night with Lindy in the rooming-in room at the Duke hospital NICU.  Neither one of them slept that night!   We were so excited to get Lindy home before Christmas.  She was the best Christmas present ever!!

As for the rest of the week, it was a pretty busy one.  Lindy had physical therapy on Tuesday, followed by an eye doctor appointment.  The ophthalmologist dilated her eyes and checked her glasses prescription.  He said everything looks good and about the same.  He wanted to see us in 2-3 months but I asked if we have to continue seeing him so often.  Nothing has changed with her since she came home  but he likes to keep close tabs on the little ones.  He let us go to 4 months.  Hey, I’ll take it!

Wednesday morning we had Lindy’s vision therapy where we made some Christmas ornaments.  Well, Leslie and I mostly made the ornaments but it was fun!

Wednesday afternoon big Willy had his speech evaluation.  She did a couple different tests on him and nothing came as a surprise.  He is above average in receptive language – meaning he hears us and understands us.  He does show a moderate to severe delay in expressive language.  I have a list from our hearing teacher that says 2.5 year olds should have 450 words.  Will has less than 30.  So we definitely aren’t surprised he has a moderate to severe delay.  So we are going to start him on speech therapy every other week.  The therapist normally sees kids at our local library but she was so kind in actually offering to come to our house.   She knows I have Lindy and quite a few other appointments and she volunteered.  I’m hoping Lindy can sit with us and then she can get a little speech therapy too!

The kids got to stay up late and party two nights this week.  Tuesday night they went with me to my United Methodist Women’s meeting at 7pm and Drew came and got them around 8pm when he was done volunteering at social services.  Wednesday night they got to go to the choir party and we didn’t get home until about 9:15pm!  I guess a little staying up late around the holidays won’t hurt them!   They had a great time at both places, running around like wild children.

One day this week I got out the crayons and paper and let the kids color and for the first time, Lindy really colored!  Normally she just pounds the crayon on the paper and makes dots.  This week she was really going back and forth.  A few times she was actually watching and saw that she was making marks on the paper.  Most of the time she doesn’t actually watch the paper though.

And because my dear husband is so proud of himself, I’ll mention that he went deer hunting for only the second time ever and he got a deer.  He went last year and never even saw a deer.  This time they saw a deer and he got it on his first shot.  I’m a little leery of deer meat as my family had a couple bad instances with it growing up.  We’ll have to see about eating it!

We were supposed to go to Charlotte tomorrow morning for Christmas with Drew’s dad and stepmom but now we aren’t sure because of the snow.  I have heard we might get anywhere from 3-18 inches!  We’ll see what tomorrow looks like!

It sounds like you really did have a special day. Glad they were about to play at the gym. Love the chair photos and their little hats!

Be safe in the snow and enjoy. We only got rain 20 miles east of Charlotte.
