Accident Waiting to Happen

Lindy learned how to climb up in the kitchen chair this week and it’s an accident waiting to happen.  She does well getting up there but then she gives us a heart attack once she is there.  She thinks standing up in the chair is a good idea.  She gets up facing the back of the chair and therefore she has to somehow get herself turned around and sitting on her bottom.  This gets pretty tricky sometimes.  I do think her braces make it a lot harder for her to get her feet out from underneath herself.  When she’s trying to get her feet out she is usually hanging off the side of the chair.  The first day she would get down from the chair by herself but since then she won’t do it by herself.  We help her down and she climbs right back up.  I’ve even started blocking the kitchen off during the day so that I don’t have to deal with it!  Physically and developmentally it’s a great thing for her to have figured out how to do this.  It’s just not good for her parents and the gray hair she is giving us!  She has fallen a couple times while trying to climb up but thankfully she hasn’t hurt herself!

As for the rest of the week, Lindy had vision therapy Wednesday morning and hearing therapy Wednesday afternoon.  During vision therapy Leslie did some testing with her and I thought she did pretty darn good.  In hearing therapy we played with water and washed some dirty toys.  Lindy had a great time and tried her hardest to soak both me and Chris!

Tuesday morning was my big day.  We had the March of Dimes kick-off breakfast and I had to stand up and give a speech in front of about 60 people!  I made it through thankfully!  I’ll be launching our March for Babies team soon – stay tuned!

The kids and I went on Monday night to watch Drew play in one of his church basketball games.  Most of the games have been too late for us to go to but Monday’s game was at 6:15pm.  The kids did okay.  I kept them in the stroller because there is NO way they would have sat still in the bleachers with me.  Will alternated yelling ‘down’ and ‘dada’ the entire game!  I had to pretty much entertain Lindy the entire game because the poor girl couldn’t see the game going on.  I think she’d actually see the players when they were close to her but then they’d quickly be gone.  Probably too much for her to keep track of.

We’ve been watching Will this week because we can’t figure out what is going on.  He’s had a slightly runny nose for 3 weeks now.  None of the rest of us seem to have a runny nose.  Sunday afternoon and Monday morning when he woke up his eyes and bridge of his nose seemed a little swollen.   Plus he had that rash a few weeks ago.  I can’t decide if they are all related or just random stuff going on.  I’m starting to wonder if he has allergies.  He acts completely fine which is why I haven’t taken him to the doctor yet.

Will’s other excitement for the week is that he seems to be catching on to his colors and some numbers and letters.  We have these different colored boxes that have 3-4 colored items in each box.  He can successfully sort the items by himself now.  He has also been ‘counting’ on his fingers for a little bit now.  When we count out loud he points to his fingers and ‘counts’ along with us.  Yesterday he surprised me by knowing some of his letters.   He plays with the fridge alphabet toys and this apple alphabet toy all the time so he has apparently learned some along the way!  It’s fun to see him learning!

Lou Lou went pee-pee on Sunday – except it was on the floor in the bathroom and not in the potty!  Will was sitting on the potty and I kept saying ‘go pee-pee.’  Lindy was standing next to me and all of a sudden she peed all over the floor.  I honestly don’t think she did it because I was saying ‘go pee-pee’ but we did praise her.  We tried to act like we were happy that she went pee-pee!  So weird to be praising someone for peeing on your bathroom floor.  Being a parent is crazy!

Have a great weekend!  It’s finally supposed to warm up around here!

The kids LOVE their tent but it gives them the worst static!CSC_0613CSC_0614 DSC_0591 DSC_0607 DSC_0609 Some random pictures when I was playing with my camera one day.DSC_0594DSC_0599DSC_0600 DSC_0602DSC_0606 At Daddy’s basketball game.DSC_0518

Valentine’s Day Recap

Drew and I were able to go out the night before Valentine’s Day to dinner and the Winston-Salem symphony.  We had a very nice evening while Mimo watched the kids for us.  I am sure that they had a very nice evening too.

Although I think Will was a little peeved at me the next morning.  When I first went in their room he looked at me and looked away.  I normally get a bunch of “hi’s” and jumping and bouncing all around his bed.   I don’t think he liked us going out the night before!

We did have a nice Valentine’s Day.  The kids enjoyed seeing and playing with Mimo in the morning before church.  We enjoyed a visit from GrandBob and Suzette in the afternoon and then we went out to eat dinner at IHOP.  Pretty romantic huh?  It turned out pretty awesome when we found out that kids eat free!

Here is our day(weekend) in pictures.

Opening Ceremonies

We are awaiting the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics.  Go USA!

We had our usual assortment of therapies this week.  We had PT on Tuesday and Lindy did well.  We unVelcroed (is that a word) the top strap on her right brace and she immediately knew something was different.  She whined a bit and finally realized that it really wasn’t so bad or different.  It is making her do more work but is still keeping her foot in the right position.

Tuesday afternoon we had hearing therapy, but I completely forgot that we had switched it from Wednesday to Tuesday.  I was working down in the basement and the kids were still asleep.  At 3:10pm Drew yells down and tells me Chris was here.  Oops.  I had to go wake up the kids and quickly get them ready for therapy.  That is only the second time ever that I’ve forgotten a therapy.  Both times we were home and were still able to do the therapy.  Everyone makes mistakes!

Wednesday morning Will had speech therapy and he did well.  He just loves when therapists bring in big bags of toys.  He really did well though.  She really worked on trying to get him to make the ‘e’ sound and by the end he was trying.  He was saying ‘eat’ by the end too.  He has to figure out that you basically smile when you say ‘e’.

It’s been another interesting weather week for us.  After losing power last weekend for almost 24 hours, we lost power again on Wednesday night.  Thankfully this time it was only for 5 hours.  It went out around 4pm.  We had a yummy pb&j dinner and then we left.  We headed to Barnes and Noble and spent some giftcards.  The kids had a great time taking books on and off the shelves.  We tried our hardest to get them back in the right place!  Then we headed to Drew’s brother’s house to hang out for a little bit.  When we called and the answering machine picked up we headed home.  The next morning we woke up and we had no cable or internet for the entire day.  This whole winter weather thing is getting old!

Lindy’s news of the week is that she threw up three times in her bed this week.  The first time was actually last Friday night, the night our power went out.  The second time was Monday at naptime and then she did it Tuesday night at bedtime.  She would be crying and get worked up and throw up.  She used to do this but she stopped about a year ago.  The only time she ever does it now is when she has some kind of cold and she has drainage down her throat. We’re not really sure why she started doing it this week.  Will has had a tiny bit of a runny nose for the last two weeks but nothing I would actually consider a cold.  Lindy shows no outward sign of a cold but we can’t tell what’s going on in her nose and throat.  Knock on wood, she hasn’t done it since Tuesday.  She has been crying more when we put her down for a nap or bedtime, but at least she hasn’t thrown up in a couple days.

Will has been gnawing on hands all week.  I finally got a look in his mouth and his final three baby teeth are coming through!  He has 3 two year molars coming in.  I’m so happy to be nearly done with the teething stage but it’s kind of sad too.  How can my babies have all their baby teeth?  They are growing too fast for my liking.

And now for the good stuff….

Silly Lindy was wearing her glasses on the end of her nose like an old librarian one day.DSC_0357 Opening Valentine’s Day cards.DSC_0362 My big boy eats his sandwiches without having them cut up anymore.  He is a little boy now, not my baby.DSC_0372 Destruct-o child.  She tears everything apart and breaks all the toys.  I’ve even heard, “We’ve never had a child ever break that before.” Half the magazine is on the ground.DSC_0374 Valentine presents from Nana and Papa.  The kids LOVE little doughnuts!DSC_0376DSC_0378 DSC_0381DSC_0382DSC_0383   This sweet boy loves to crawl up in the chair behind me and give me big hugs.  I love it when he does this!DSC_0391  A new Lindy hair-do today.  I thought it was really cute but Drew said “That’s an interesting hair-do.”  hmmmmDSC_0396  The kids took a pink bath together tonight in honor of Valentine’s Day.  They had so much fun playing together.  DSC_0403 DSC_0404

We Love Electricity!

North Carolina got another dose of winter weather on Friday morning (our third storm this winter).  It started with 3-4 inches of pretty snow but then it turned to freezing rain all day Friday.  We lost electricity from 2-4pm Friday afternoon and then it went off again at 8pm.  It didn’t come back until 5:30pm on Saturday evening!  We hung out at some church members’ house all day Saturday since they have a generator to heat the house and a gas stove to cook on.  We were so happy to see the lights come back on!

The beginning of the week was a normal one.  Lindy had PT on Tuesday morning and I had to take Will with me.  It was pouring rain that morning which made for an interesting trip.  Going into the building I decided getting the stroller would take too long and we’d get too wet.  I somehow carried both kids, the diaper bag, and the umbrella at the same time.  Will was half sliding down me so I‘m sure it was a sight to see!  Lindy did great at PT.  She was back to her normal hard working self.  She actually seemed to have fun this time.  Will did pretty good too.  They both got to play in the ball pit and had fun in there together.  On the way out of the building the greeter lady at the door offered to watch the kids so I could go get the car.  I put them in a chair and she sat with them.  Of course on the way out to the car Will fell and landed in a puddle and still got all wet.

Wednesday morning we had vision therapy with Leslie.  She made some neat cards where they got to tear the top off the card to see what was under it.  They thought tearing the top off was great.  I’m not sure Lindy took notice of what was under the top but she had fun taking the tops off.  Wednesday afternoon we had hearing therapy with Chris.  She brought dollhouse furniture and we played with that.  The last time we did it Lindy didn’t seem to know what to do.  This time she was really cute and looked like she was having a good time.  It’s fun to see them doing this imaginative play.

Yesterday we went down to GrandBob’s and Suzette’s house to visit and watch the Super Bowl.  We had a nice visit with them and Aunt Anna.  I’m probably going to be screwed up on my days this week since we don’t normally spend a Sunday night in Charlotte.

One cute thing Will was doing this week was laughing at the fridge toys.  We have the barn and wash–n-go fridge toys.  You can put two pieces together correctly or you can mix them up, like half a car and half a plane.  It will say that it’s a car plane and then it says, “That’s silly” and then it laughs.  Will apparently found this to be humorous this week because every time it laughed, he would laugh.  He would try out all the different combinations and laugh every time it laughed.

We have the fridge dj as well and Lindy has found her favorite song on that.  She knows where it is and she hits the button and goes directly to it.  It’s the strangest little song but she loves it.  I’m learning to hate it because it gets stuck in my head!  Lindy has also been building with the blocks a lot this week.  She especially likes the magnet tiles we have.  It’s nice to see she can do this.  She has to get the tiles lined up pretty close which is a great visual exercise for her.

Here is our week in pictures!

Playhouse Daddy

The kids got a Little People playhouse for Christmas and it has become one of their favorite toys.  It’s fun to to see them doing imaginative play.

I keep finding the Little People Daddy in all kinds of strange positions in the playhouse though.

I hope Lindy and Will aren’t trying to imitate life around our house!  I really didn’t think they saw me give Drew that swirly.  But I guess he is in the doghouse sometimes, so who knows :)
