Kindergarten Registration

The weeks go by so fast!  This week was especially busy at work so it went by even faster.

The kids were supposed to have Monday off but they went for a snow make up day.  They didn’t seem to mind – wait, I don’t think they ever knew they were supposed to have it off!

Tuesday and Wednesday were crazy days for me.  We had early morning kick off breakfasts and I was up at 4:40am one day and 4:30am another day.  Early early.   Drew had to get them dressed, ready and to school.  He successfully managed to get Lindy’s hair up when I was out of town in January, but it was a no go on Tuesday.  He said he tried but it wasn’t working.  I don’t think he tried on Wednesday!

Wednesday after our early morning breakfast I went and spoke to a group of student nurses at UNCG.  I was asked by a former youth group member to speak from the perspective of a parent.  It was nice to tell them about the nurses we loved and will always remember and then the nurses who could have done things differently.

Wednesday afternoon Lindy had hearing therapy with Ms. Asbury.  She worked pretty good.  Ms. Asbury said she is basically done with the auditory learning guide.  How can that be???  It seemed like we’d never get there!  We are checking one more thing but we think she has that.  She has come so far with her talking and listening!!

Thursday after school we took the kids to register for kindergarten!  How can that be?  We had to register them at our ‘home’ school, even though that is not where we want them to go.  We registered them but filled out a ‘choice card’ for another school in our zone.  We had no clue what to expect and it was actually just paperwork.  The kids were pretty bored.  After we got all the paperwork turned in I asked about Lindy and her IEP.  I spoke with a lady who then called the head of hearing/speech for the county (whom we’ve worked with and who knows Lindy).  I got to speak with her and we talked about a couple options we have been considering for Lindy.  She said she would check into them and get back to me this week.  So it’s still kind of up in the air where they will go to school.  Will is kind of along for the ride and will go wherever Lindy goes to school.  I’m glad the process is started and we’ll see where they end up.  I just can’t believe they are old enough for kindergarten.

Thursday Drew took the kids to choir practice while I cleaned up the garage.  When they got back, Uncle Ed came over and they moved our old junky couch  out to the garage because our new, pretty one was being delivered on Friday!!  Lindy was so funny that night.  I think she was just really tired but she started crying about something and then it turned into crying about the couch.  She didn’t want us to get rid of the couch.  She was so pitiful!

Thursday night they put the school system on a 2 hour delay for Friday because of the chance of some light wintery weather and a little freezing rain.  Not too long after they did that they cancelled school!  Friday we took our time getting up and I worked from home.  The couch got delivered around 12pm which was oh so very exciting.  We love it and Lindy is okay with it now!  I headed to work in the afternoon.  But we got practically no bad weather.  We woke up to barely a dusting of snow that morning and rain.  It never got cold enough for freezing rain. I think cancelling school was a little premature but they didn’t ask me.  The kids enjoyed an extra day off.

Drew now picks the kids up from school.  They play for awhile while he gets more work done.  Then he has been doing some fun things with them.  They have been to a couple different parks, been to a used bookstore, and Krispy Kreme.  They are having fun with their daddy.

We have had a lazy weekend around here.  It rained and was cold on Saturday but we went out and ran errands all afternoon.  The kids didn’t want to go in anywhere so I mostly ran in each store and got what I needed.  We did make it home to see the end of the Wake Forest/Miami game!  Go Deacs! Taking down the #2 team in the country!

Today we had church and lunch at church afterwards.  I ran some errands and we’ve messed around some more.

Okay, here are some pictures.

Lindy is sporting an outfit that I wore when I was young.  Probably 1981 or 1982.  Still looks good!DSC_0602Saying goodbye to the old couch.  Yes, I’m a sentimental dork.  I’ve had this couch since 1999.  14 years!  I’ve known it longer than I’ve known Drew.DSC_0605DSC_0610DSC_0612We sure did have Uncle Ed take our last family picture on it!DSC_0613Missing the couch!  Is this not so pitiful?DSC_0617DSC_0618Our new living room!!!DSC_0620Ain’t she pretty??DSC_0622She likes it!  Lindy likes the couch!DSC_0624DSC_0625Today before church.  He was mad and trying not to smile!DSC_0626Pretty girl!DSC_0628

Valentine’s Day and Weekend Guests

I meant to write a post last night and I forgot.  I’m thankful for the gentle reminders from a certain friend or else I’d have not thought about it at all today!

We had a good week with a good bit going on.

The biggest news of last week was that I started working full-time on Monday.  I had gradually been working my hours up from part-time so it wasn’t a huge shock to me or the family.

Of course Tuesday rolled around and I had to be at work and Drew had to be in High Point for a meeting all day.  GrandBob to the rescue!  I met him at the kids’ school and we swapped cars.  He got the kids and took them to gymnastics and the mall.  They got cookies and got to ride the carousel at the mall with GrandBob and Aunt Joan.  They left the mall and they met Drew and me in Clemmons at the ENT office.  We grabbed Lindy and headed into the appointment and Will and GrandBob headed to Tanglewood Park to play.

This was a big appointment for LIndy Lou.  He was checking her ears to make sure her ear infection in Dec. was gone and he scoped her to see if her left vocal cord was moving.  We had talked to Lindy about it some so she knew he was going to put something in her nose.  We came fully prepared with throw up bucket and a change of clothes though.  Thankfully her ears were cleared up.  Next he sprayed some numbing spray up her nose and then he stuck a really long tube down it.  She sat in my lap and I had to wrap my legs around hers so she didn’t kick him and I had to wrap my arms around hers so she didn’t try to pull the tube out.  Drew was in charge of the throw up bucket and holding her hand.  Lindy continues to amaze us.  She did awesome and was such a rock star.  She didn’t like it but she didn’t really even cry.  Thankfully it only lasted a few minutes.   She did gag a little towards the end but she never threw up!  The nurse couldn’t believe how good she did and said much older ones than her act so much worse!  That is the toughest girl I know.  She is awesome.  The thing that was not so awesome was that he didn’t see her left vocal cord move at all.  It is fully paralyzed.  So now we have some decisions to make.  We can do nothing and see how she does in kindergarten.  We could augment her vocal cord with some kind of injection.  These are only temporary but it could give us some info.  We can do a fairly new vocal cord surgery on her as well.   We could do a combo of them or again, we can do nothing.  Decisions, decisions.  We got out of there and we met up with Will and Grandbob at the Cracker Barrel.  We let Lindy pick a special candy out for being so amazing.  She liked that treat.

Wednesday I spent the day in Raleigh in some training classes and Thursday was Valentine’s Day.  Drew and I don’t really exchange V-day presents.  I do request a card but this year he also surprised me with 2 boxes of Hot Tamales – my favorite candy.  He’s so sweet!  I did however get the kids presents.  Because they are the loves of our lives!  They each got a balloon and a Dream Lite.  They LOVE the Dream Lites.  The funny thing is that my dad saw them at Xmas and asked if the kids would like them.  I said no.  Well they got one for Rylee and the kids did end up loving hers, so I went ahead and got them one for V-day.  Kind of glad I turned my dad down so I had a good gift to get them!!  We had a romantic pizza dinner – free pizza at that (from the papa johns coin toss at the Super Bowl!).

Friday the kids had their actual Valentine parties at school.  They came home loaded with fun stuff.  I think our Valentine’s were the best!  I might be biased though.  Friday I met up with the kids and we went to Target while Drew visited a church member at the hospital.  We then went for dinner out before heading home.  We waited patiently for my parents to arrive that evening.  We are glad they braved a drive through some snow in the mountains to come visit with us.

We didn’t have an eventful weekend but it was nice to see my parents.  Mom and I went to Target Sat. afternoon and then we went out for dinner that night.  We went to church Sunday, where the kids’ choir sang, and out for lunch.

Drew did take the kids Sunday afternoon and signed up Will for tee ball.  I’m not sure what we are getting into!  I am kind of hesitant about the whole thing.  He didn’t love going to soccer practice last fall and it was only one time a week.  This will be once during the week and once on weekends.  We’ll see how old Will likes tee ball.  I think he might get to be on the team with a friend from church whose dad is the coach.  He will have a lot to learn about baseball!

I think that is the news of last week and the weekend. Until next time.

Back from Israel

Drew got home safe and sound from Israel on Thursday afternoon.  He has hardly been awake since.  Just kidding.  He has been tired but he had a great time.

As for the beginning of the week without him, Mimo had gone home for the weekend and so I got the kids up and to school Monday morning.  Mimo headed back Monday morning and picked them up from my office and took them to lunch.  Then I met her at PT and grabbed Lindy and we headed inside.  Lynn and Will went to Old Salem and brought home some yummy treats from the bakery.  They had wanted to walk around but it was too cold and windy to be outside long.  Lindy did really well in PT.  She worked pretty hard and did well.  She got to roller skate for the first time ever.  But just with one roller skate on.  We put it on her better foot and it supposedly made her other, weaker foot work harder.  She just thought it was cool!

Tuesday Lynn picked the kids up from school and took them to gymnastics.   She said they got to use these ribbons that were attached to rings.  She said Lindy did what she was supposed to, after she made a fashion accessory out of the ring and ribbon.  Apparently she had her arm through the ring and the ribbon wrapped around herself.

Wednesday Lynn picked the kids up and brought them home for lunch and then took them to Sci Works.  The kids had a blast.  I hear Lindy had fun drilling in the dentist/teeth area and they both had fun on the racers.  She bought us a pass for four more trips so we are all looking forward to more time at Sci Works!  Thanks, Lynn!

Thursday was Drew’s coming home day!  Lynn picked the kids up and made welcome home signs for Drew.  Drew got home around 3pm.  I got home around 5pm to see him.  He got the best souvenirs ever!  Pretty scarves and necklaces and lotion from the Dead Sea.  It was like Christmas in February!  We ate dinner with Lynn and then I took the kids to choir practice and Lynn headed home.  Apparently Drew headed for the couch and fell asleep.  He was asleep when we got home an hour later and he never work up the rest of the night!  The 7 hour time difference has been hard for him to adjust to.

The only thing we did this weekend was go to our first Wake Forest basketball game of the season.  Katie had a couple extra free tickets and we picked up two cheap tickets outside the doors.  It was a great game to see as the Deacs played really well.  Poor Lindy can’t see much so she got to play on my phone.  Will paid attention for a long time but then he and Micah started playing Kris’ phone and that was more interesting to him.  It was a fun afternoon.

Today we had church and I had a UMW meeting and then the kids and I made their Valentines for the party this week at school.  It took us most of the afternoon but we got them finished.

Will has finally stopped talking about smoke detectors so much.  He did mention it tonight and was asking if we had them in the bathrooms.  He has gone to bed fine all week but he has been waking up super early in the mornings.  He wants his Valentine’s lights on.  He does go back to sleep but he hasn’t slept past 7am until this morning when he finally slept until 7:30am.  Hopefully we are on the right track to sleeping longer again in the mornings.

I do want to give a huge shout out to Lynn for staying with us the last 8 days.  I couldn’t have handled Drew being gone for 10 days by myself.  She was a huge help and the kids had a blast with her.  I’m not sure they actually missed Drew because they were very excited to have Mimo around so much.  I’m very thankful she could come stay with us!  Thanks, Lynn!

As for pictures, I just realized I didn’t get a picture of Mimo this week either.  How is that possible?  Here 8 days and no picture?  Most of these pictures are from her cell phone as I haven’t been taking many pictures lately.

I think my girl looked adorable last Monday.  Love this outfit!DSC_0460He looked good, too!DSC_0462Trying to get a picture together usually ends up like this.DSC_0466DSC_0469Roller skating!IMG_1844I could do a whole post of Lindy sleeping pictures.  I always find her in crazy positions.IMG_1801On the way to school one day she looked so bored!IMG_1803He was happy though!IMG_1806The Valentine decoration I made.  IMG_1808Mimo treated the kids to yogurt after gymnastics twice while she was here.  Hope they don’t expect that from us!IMG_1832More sleeping pictures!IMG_1810Playing at Sci Works!IMG_1822IMG_1823IMG_1825IMG_1826IMG_1827IMG_1829IMG_1830IMG_1833IMG_1834IMG_1835IMG_1836At the Wake game yesterday!  Go Deacs!IMG_1814IMG_1816IMG_1818IMG_1820IMG_1821My Valentine girl today!DSC_0471My Valentine boy today.DSC_0473DSC_0482Working hard on their class Valentines!DSC_0485DSC_0487DSC_0488DSC_0490DSC_0494
