Ear Problems

I’m trying to get back on track with my Sunday evening posts.  I’ve been off a few weeks and my mass of one follower hasn’t been happy. ha ha!

Lindy started the week off with a couple appointments.  Ever since we went to the beach, her left hearing aid has been whistling.  And driving us nuts.  I assumed she must been needing new ear molds.  She was scheduled for PT at 4pm on Monday and I was able to get her a 3:45pm appointment with the audiologist right next door.  Drew took her to that and he said the audiologist looked and immediately said her ears were full of wax.  She had a feeling that the sound was just bouncing off the ear wax and making the whistling sound.  She said we needed to go to the ENT to get the wax out and if it was still whistling then she would do new ear molds.  There was no way she was doing ear mold impressions because she said she would end up pushing the wax farther down in there.  We headed to PT with Jill and Lindy was not very good.  She is struggling lately being a good listener.  I was getting irritated with her at PT.  I’m not paying $60 an hour for her to mess around.

Tuesday I tried scheduling her an appointment with the ENT but he is the busiest person in town.  She wasn’t going to get in for awhile so I made her an appointment at the pediatrician’s office to let them get it out.  Drew said it was awful.  They tried blowing it out with water and he said she hated that.  The PA was able to dig to get all of it out of her right ear and some out of the left ear.  They couldn’t get it all and said we still need to go to ENT.  They did get enough out of her ear though that her hearing aid is not whistling anymore.  We have an appointment with ENT in a couple weeks so he can get the rest.  At least she is back to wearing her hearing aid.  Although I can’t say her listening has gotten any better!

Tuesday evening we went to a parent orientation for a summer camp that Lindy is going to go to for two weeks in July.  It’s a camp for visually impaired kids.  This will be the first year she has gone because you have to be a rising kindergartner.  The kids went and got to play on the playground and do a craft while we heard about the camp.  The camp focuses on independent living skills, which should be interesting!  The fun thing is that her old Governor Morehead teacher, Ms. Pam, is going to be her teacher this summer.  That will be neat to have them reunited!

Wednesday afternoon Lindy had her last hearing session with her teacher, Mrs. Asbury.  I’m so glad we continued to see her this year.  Lindy has continued making progress over the year, even despite dropping all of the school system therapies.  We love her teacher and we are keeping our fingers crossed that Lindy might continue to see her next year in the afternoons.  She will see a hearing therapist, we are just hoping it’s Mrs. Asbury!

Thursday afternoon Lindy was able to go to the elementary school they will be going to and visit with her new vision teacher and two kids.  There was a kindergarten girl and a first grade boy.  They met us in the office and walked us out to the vision teacher’s room.  They got to play together and by the end they were all best friends.  The two girls were inviting each other over for sleep overs and to their birthday parties!  We also got to meet Lindy’s kindergarten teacher and her assistant.  Both seemed really nice.  We met the PE teacher and the assistant principal.  Everyone was excited to meet Lindy.  I know we made the right decision in checking out this school and getting her sent there!  I’m so excited for her!  I know Will will love it, too!

This was the first full week of summer vacation and the kids had nothing to do and no where to go.  Which would be fine if I didn’t work – but now I’m a working stiff.  We ended up hiring a babysitter to come every day and watch the kids.  She is a young girl who went to our old church.  The kids had a lot of fun with her.  I pulled out some stuff they haven’t done in awhile, like play doh and the easel, which was a treat for them.

We had a pretty quiet weekend.  Friday night we went out for dinner and got our free Krispy Kreme doughnut on National Donut day.  Saturday we did house and yard work all day long.  It wasn’t necessarily fun but it was so nice to have time at home to do stuff. We’ve been so busy since the beginning of April.  Half of my house is clean.  I’ll hopefully get the other half this week!

This was a Lindy heavy post.  Will is still around!  Just not much going on with him.   He just finished his antibiotic for his ear infection he had last week.  Ears have been causing us problems lately!

I didn’t take many pictures this week but here is what I got.

Lindy and Mrs. AsburyDSC_2057DSC_2058We got a very late start this year but we planted a small garden this week.  We got a raised garden bed last weekend and Lindy and I got it put together and veggies planted this week.  Of course she thought it was just a big dirt box for awhile.DSC_2059DSC_2060DSC_2062DSC_2063He didn’t want to help but he wanted his picture by it.DSC_2066This is one pretty good worker.  Most of the time.  DSC_2068Looking cute on the day she was visiting her new school!DSC_2070Heading to church this morning.DSC_2077She looked SO cute!DSC_2073And he looked so handsome!DSC_2079

Camping at Hanging Rock

We got home Wednesday from the beach and had two days to rest at home and then we were off on another adventure.  We went camping at Hanging Rock on Friday night with GrandBob and Uncle Ed.  We got up there around 5pm and it was a perfect evening.  The weather was gorgeous and we really liked our campsites.  We hiked just a short way to a little stream where the kids had fun feeling the cold water.  The men folk cooked us some hotdogs for dinner.  We started off on another hike to see the lake but we met Uncle Ed coming back and he said it was a good bit farther and not as easy.  With Lindy on my back we turned around!  We finished the night with s’mores and spooky stores – by Lindy, Will, and GrandBob – by the campfire.  The kids were so excited to sleep in our new tent.   I was excited to sleep in it too.  Too bad Drew and I didn’t sleep too well!

Lindy woke up bright and early Saturday morning at 6:18am and said, “It’s time to wake up!”  I told her it wasn’t and she laid quietly for awhile before Will sat up around 6:40am.  No sleeping while camping.  We had a yummy breakfast of pancakes and bacon, also done by the men folk.  We got everything packed up and we headed to do another short hike to the Hidden Falls and the Window Falls.

After we were done hiking we showed Bob and Ed around Danbury a little.  That didn’t take long!  We took them to Moratock Park and then Priddy’s General Store.  We ate lunch in Danbury and headed home.  On the way we stopped at Mabe’s Berry Farm and picked up some freshly picked strawberries!

We had a great time camping.  The kids absolutely love it.  I’ve had two good experiences and if they are always good then I’ll keep going!

Sunday we had church and I dragged Lindy shopping with me.  She didn’t want to go but I made her come.  We got free treats from Starbucks (something they said had no coffee in it so she got one!) and she was happy.  I let her play my phone and she was all set.  We ended up at 3 stores and ended up having a nice girls’ afternoon!

With our cool new tent – it had a front porch!DSC_1986All set up for bed.  The kids got to use the sleeping bags they got for Xmas for the first time!DSC_1987Cook my dinner.  Stat.  Serve it on a platter please SmileDSC_1988Some cute kids hanging out in the woods!DSC_1990DSC_1991DSC_1993DSC_1994Cold Water!DSC_1997DSC_1998Brrr!DSC_2004DSC_2001DSC_2006DSC_2009What’s this?  A picture of me?  Proof I was there!DSC_2010This is your proof Uncle Ed was there.  Just his backside as he gave Lindy a piggy back rideDSC_2011and then a shoulder back ride – as she named it.DSC_2012Cooking s’mores on the camp fire!DSC_2013DSC_2014Bed head on Saturday morning!  Glad these two slept good.  No one else did~DSC_2020There was a lot of hide-n-seek going on in the woods.DSC_2021With their camping buddy!DSC_2024Packing up!DSC_2025DSC_2028Hiking to Hidden Falls.DSC_2037DSC_2038DSC_2040DSC_2041Chilling by the Dan River in Danbury.DSC_2042Strumming away at Priddy’s General Store.DSC_2045Priddy’s General Store.DSC_2046All cleaned up and ready for church Sunday Morning!DSC_2048DSC_2056

1st Beach Trip of 2013

We were supposed to head to the beach on Friday but we had a death in our church and Drew had to do a funeral on Saturday morning.  As soon as he got home and got changed, we headed out.  We made awesome time – 4 hours.  Actually a little less.

The kids were so excited to get down there and see Mimo and her dogs.  We got down there in time for dinner and then we met a friend from Winston and her girls at an Italian Ice place for a treat.  Too bad it was really cool out and we were all freezing after eating our treats!

We woke up Sunday and it was cloudy all morning long.  We were lazy all morning and finally the sun came out and we headed to the beach.  It was a gorgeous day!  The kids had a blast.  Will wasn’t his usual beach bum self.  I’m not convinced he felt well.  I don’t know if it’s allergies or a cold but he had out of control snot and he developed a cough.  He also had a willing grandma that would let him play her phone!  Sunday night we ordered pizza and took it easy.   Sunday getting ready for bed I was brushing Lindy’s teeth and I knocked her other loose tooth practically out of her mouth.  It started bleeding like crazy and I reached in pulled it out.  She was excited to have another ‘window’  in her mouth.

We  woke up Monday morning and when Lindy looked under her pillow there was no money!   But the Tooth Fairy had been there and had put $1 under her pillow.  Mimo searched and found the dollar under her bed.  So Lindy thought the Tooth Fairy must put the money under the bed at the beach house.  ha ha.  (Little Man is getting a bit jealous of Lindy losing two teeth and getting $2.  He doesn’t understand that in due time it will happen to him.)  The rest of the day was an exact replica of Sunday.   We had a lazy morning, an early lunch, and then an awesome afternoon on the beach.  We grilled steaks for dinner on Monday which were oh so yummy.

Tuesday we hit the beach early in the morning and then came back around lunchtime.  Mimo packed up and headed out and then we headed to Southport to look around.  We went in a few shops and then ate at one of our most favorite places on earth – the Provision Company.  We got the kids ice cream for a snack and we headed back to the house.

This morning we got up, got everything cleaned up, and we left around 11am.  We stopped for an early lunch on the island and headed home.  It was kind of nice getting home early because everything got unpacked quickly and we had a normal dinner and evening.

It really was one of the best beach trips we have had.  Awesome weather and a relaxing time.  I read a book.  A whole book this weekend!  I also looked through about 6 magazines.  I did no work and that was awesome!  The only thing that stunk was keeping my toe clean and clear of sand.  I wrapped it up in a bunch of bandages and then wore a sock and water shoe and looked like a dork.  I didn’t want sand in my stiches.  I couldn’t get in the water or jump waves with the kids.  I played some with them on the beach in the dryer sand.  Thankfully the kids are so much more self sufficient at the beach that everyone was able to read and relax a bit while they played.

Tomorrow is back to life – back to reality!

I don’t understand the mustache craze going on but we got in on it!DSC_1851The kids and their friend Paige.DSC_1853The Beach!  Jumping waves even in the cold water.DSC_1865DSC_1870DSC_1873DSC_1880DSC_1888DSC_1892Will was under the towel playing Mimo’s phone.  DSC_1896Lindy thought the tent was a great idea.DSC_1899Another tooth gone!DSC_1905Under her pillow in a tissue.DSC_1906Where’s the money??DSC_1907Mimo found it under the bed!DSC_1908So cute!DSC_1910DSC_1912Miss PrissDSC_1915DSC_1924DSC_1925DSC_1934DSC_1937DSC_1940The green potty is still a beach must.DSC_1950Sweet boy.DSC_1954Our beachy family!DSC_1958Mimo and her grandkids.DSC_1959DSC_1963At our favorite restaurant, The Provision Company.DSC_1965DSC_1967DSC_1970DSC_1971DSC_1973DSC_1974DSC_1983
