Last Week of October

The last week in October was another event week for me at work so my evenings were spent working.

We carved pumpkins on Tuesday night.  It was our only available night before Halloween to do it.  The kids had Xmas program practice again.

The kids spent Friday night with Lynn so that Drew could come volunteer at the event.  We got home very late and it was very nice to be able to sleep in that next morning.   We left around lunch on Saturday and headed to Mimo's.  We picked up Will to go tailgate and go to a football game.  Lindy got invited to an art party play date at a friend's house from 2-7pm.  Lynn helped us out by taking and picking her up for us so we could watch the game.  We had a little tailgate and then got to see Wake lose to Army.  The best part of the game was that it was Ellie's first football game.  She was super tired the first half and just chilled with me the whole time.  She woke up in the second half and had a blast.  She's so cute!

Sunday afternoon Lindy and I met some friends at a park.  They went through a very similar pregnancy, preterm birth and infant loss like we did.  They have a boy and girl now as well but they are in high school.  Lindy and the daughter have been compared for years.  They both have severe vision and hearing loss but are both very smart girls.  We met them for ice cream and then went to a park.  Lindy and Asha got to hang out and the mom and I got to hang out.  Lindy and I both need mentors!  It was nice to talk to someone a little farther in our journey and get good advice from her.  Lindy really enjoyed hanging out with someone like her.

One likes the goo and one doesn't!!

Busy Fall Fun October Weekend

Moving right along through October.  By the looks of my calendar, not much went on during the week of October 17th.  The kids started practicing for a Christmas program at church on Wednesday nights.  The kids did have spirit week at school which made the week a little bit fun and different for them.

The real fun happened over the weekend.  Friday night was Family Fun Night at the kids' school.  It's the annual fall festival and big PTA fundraiser.  The kids have fun but the appeal has mostly worn off for the parents! ha!  We didn't have to volunteer in classes this year because they used Crosby Scholars who needed service hours.  We walked around with the kids and some of their friends.  They had silly string and got to shoot it at some of their past teachers.   Lindy went through the haunted house for the first time with a couple friends.  Will wouldn't go!

Saturday morning Will had tennis practice and my mom, Lindy and I walked in the JDRF Walk to End Juvenile Diabetes.  We walked in support of my niece, Hayley, who has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for almost 7 years now.  She has done amazingly well but we hope by walking and supporting JDRF that it will be cured in her lifetime.  We wish we could walk with them in KC but we had our own little Beaver Bunch team out here.

Saturday afternoon our family, my mom, Drew's mom and Drew's dad all met up at a local corn maze.  It was another new one for us and we all really enjoyed it.  We do some sort of corn maze every year and they are all so different.  This one you literally wandered around the maze looking for 6 different boxes.  You answered a question and then scratched a part off a card to reveal your points.  The one with the most points at the end wins.  There were no directions or hints or clues if you were going the right way.  We eventually found all 6 boxes and I don't quite remember but I think I had the most points.  ;)  They had many other activities the kids were able to do, a big jumping pillow, a cow train, a tree house jungle gym and they had the most delicious apple cider doughnuts.  They were so good!  It was a beautiful fall afternoon that we all enjoyed!

Couple Weeks in Early October

I'm going to combine some weeks and hit the high points.

I took the kids back to the fair on Wednesday, October 5th.  The kids had a half day of school so it was a good day to take them back for some rides.  Mimo went with us as an extra hand.  We bought the wristbands and one treat and they spent their afternoon going on rides.  I did get to go on a few of them with Lindy.  They were able to ride a lot of rides.  For the first time they didn't ride any of the little kid rides.  They aren't tall enough for the big rides but there were enough in between rides to keep them happy.

Friday, October 7th, the kids went to their friend, Lawson's, birthday party at a soccer complex.  Both kids have been in class with him.  The boys played fairly rough soccer most of the night and Lindy played with Lawson's sister on the other field.

Saturday Hurricane Matthew came through the state of NC.  It poured most of the day.  I went to a NICU reunion for work and I met up with Drew and the kids at Ed and Jamie's.  We had a Wake football game that night at 7pm but Jamie and I and all kids knew we weren't going.  Ed and Drew attempted to go but didn't end up staying that long.

The story for that week was that Drew and I were supposed to go to a wedding in Charleston but Hurricane Matthew ruined our plans.  The wedding got postponed so our weekend got postponed.  We filled it up with lots of other things as you can see.

Columbus Day was also picture day and a day off for me.  The rest of the week was fairly normal.  I had a parent teacher conference for Lindy.  We are still trying to get on the right track this year.  Friday night the kids and I hung at home while Drew went to watch our niece Molly in her high school play.  Saturday I met Martha to go see Molly in her play.  Drew and the kids met Martha and me for dinner.  We enjoyed getting to catch up with her.

Sunday, October 16th was my dear mother's birthday.   They came over after church and mom and I went shopping in Greensboro at a bag sale.  We got home and celebrated with a steak dinner and chocolate cake.  We were happy to help her celebrate.

Second trip to the fair
