Bugz

The big news of last week was the 2nd grade musical, Bugz.  They have been practicing since January and we have been listening to the music in the car since then too.  Each class had a song to sing and then they all came together and sang one final song.

They had dress rehearsals at school on Tuesday and Wednesday and then they performed Thursday night for the PTA and families.  I went on Tuesday morning so I could get pictures without a huge crowd there.

Lindy told me the week before she had a solo.  Excuse me?!?  I went and talked to the music teacher to get a few more details and found out that by solo she meant, singing with a couple other kids.  I felt much better about that.  I was glad I went on Tuesday morning so I could see what see was supposed to be doing.  She looked a little lost Tuesday morning so I was able to talk to her teacher and they were able to work out a better plan for her to get where she needed to be to do her 'solo.'

Thursday was the big day for the play.  The kids went to school as normal but I picked up dinner for them before I picked them up from afterschool care.  We were going to just eat in the car but it was super hot that day.  Lindy's vision teacher had offered for us to eat in her room so we took her up on the offer so we didn't sweat to death before the play.  At 5:30pm they headed to meet up with their classes and I headed to meet up with Drew, my parents, and Lynn.  After a very short PTA meeting, the musical began!

Will was up first with his class, dressed as ladybugs and singing, "To Be a Lady."  Yeah, he was not happy about that.  No 2nd grade boy wanted to be singing about being a lady.  But they did it.  They made it cute too.  The girls had feather boas they twirled during the chorus and the boys had top hats they tipped to the girls during the chorus.   They kids made up the dance for their song and they did a great job.  Will made it through being a lady!

Lindy was up after that with her class dressed as ants, singing "March of the Army Ants."  Those ants did a lot of marching around the stage!  Lindy's group solo was up towards the beginning of the song and she did great getting to where she needed to go.  They had a microphone on stage for her, as opposed to her going to one of the mics that were down a few steps.  This meant she had her own mic and could sing straight into it and yes you could hear her loud and clear!  She did a great job too.

All the classes came back to sing the final song together.  Lindy and Will were almost directly lined up in front of each other but Will ended up being blocked by the kid in front of him.  It would have been so cool to get a picture of them together - oh well.  It was a great show and they won't do another performance till 5th grade.  We parted ways with our families and we headed to take Lindy and Will for frozen yogurt as a treat.

Friday night after school Will had a friend, Bowen come over to play.  They had a good time and before we knew it, it was time to take him half way to meet him mom.   We dropped him off and then we decided to go downtown and eat dinner.  We headed to the Mellow Mushroom and ended up spending hours there.  Partly because we requested outdoor seating that took forever but also because it takes awhile to make their food.  We headed home after dinner.

Saturday was my very last March for Babies walk of 2016!  Five walks in the books!  I love my job but spring is long and tough for everyone.  I miss 5 weeks of Saturdays with my family.   Drew did a great job of getting the kids everywhere they had to be and we had to have some good grandparent help but we made it through another walk season and we raised a lot of money for babies!

This particular Saturday Drew only had to get Will to tennis.  Lindy did not have baseball that day.  They ended up meeting up with the Bryant family because they were in town for a soccer game.  After meeting up they decided to go to the Greek Festival.  Drew swung by and got Mimo and they headed to meet back up with the Bryants.  I hear everyone had a great time.  Lindy waited in line a long time to get her face painted like a tiger.  She looked so cute!  Mimo laughed when she sent me the picture and said, "Leave her alone with her dad and this happens."   Mimo wasn't laughing later that night when she was babysitting and had to wash it all off before her shower and bedtime!  ha!

Drew and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, May 11th and we headed out to eat Saturday night to celebrate.  We had a nice dinner, followed by a trip to the new Publix and a used book store.

Sunday was our normal chore day and I spent hours outside cutting weeds down on the back of our property.  They really aren't my weeds, they are the neighbors weeds growing onto our fence and into our yard.   It was a pretty day and I enjoyed being out there working.

That wraps up the week and here are pictures of my favorite bugz!

Mother's Day

I need to back up and catch up.  Life during March for Babies season gets pretty hectic and I just get tired.  But March for Babies season is officially over so here's to getting my Saturdays back and my life back in order!

Back to May 2nd and Lindy's orthopedic appointment with Dr. Kat.  It was an easy appointment and I was surprised she didn't have a hip x-ray.  We did a little bit of waiting here and there but we worked on homework so the time went by quickly.  Dr. Kat said she looks good.  We talked about her hips turning in a little thus making her feet turn in a bit.  She said it's not severe and to fix it would require a major surgery.  Not going there unless she somehow gets super worse!  She definitely has a catch in her ankles but she is able to go past it and she is pleased with that.  Towards the end we talked about her dragging her toes.  Basically she said to watch for it and I showed her Lindy's almost new tennis shoes.  They had holes worn in the very top near her toes - which would come from her dragging her toes.  She was a little concerned.  I ended up buying her new shoes so she said to watch her closely and watch the shoes to see what happens.  If it kept happening we'd have to go back to her tall braces.  I didn't like the sounds of that!  I was telling Drew later that evening and he was like, "Oh, I think that is from her dragging her feet on the driveway when she is riding her bike."  What?!  She wore through new shoes from riding her bike!  I got her new shoes but now I've started making her change her shoes to go out and play and ride her bike.  The new shoes are perfectly fine!  One less thing to worry about!!

The rest of the week was normal and rainy.  We've had a ton of rain lately.  We had to call in help on Friday with the kids because neither Drew nor I could get them from school.  This Friday pickup was sponsored by GrandBob and Suzette!  They picked the kids up and took them to get yogurt and brought them home to play.  We ended the evening with dinner out with them.

Saturday was a walk for me but Drew took the kids to tennis and baseball.   Saturday evening we checked out the big festival in downtown Kernersville.  It was much bigger than we imagined.  There were bands, food, carnival rides for the kids, crafts, and more!  We ate dinner while listening to a band and then took the kids down to ride two rides.  They weren't cheap and the lines weren't short!  They are at a weird stage of really being too big for the little kid rides but not big enough for the big rides.  They still have fun.  We got a funnel cake, looked at a couple crafts and headed home.  It was a nice evening out downtown.

Sunday was Mother's Day.  A day all about me - and my mom - and my mother-in-law!  I woke up to cinnamon rolls and presents the kids had made at school.  Lindy painted the letter J for me and turned it into a magnet.  Will had made me a bookmark with his picture on it.  Both were cute and I loved them!  We headed to church and then we headed straight to Ed and Jamie's for lunch to celebrate Lynn.   We enjoyed a nice lunch and enjoyed seeing  Ellie.  She has gotten big and is smiling up a storm!   We headed home and my parents arrived and we had dinner with them to celebrate Cindy.  We enjoyed our evening with them as well.  My dad was smiling up a storm, too.  Just kidding! ha ha.

It was a packed weekend!  Almost every minute was packed but it was also full of love!!

Rides at the Spring Folly!

Happy Mother's Day to me!

Cutest bookmark ever!

Homemade presents are the best!

Mimo and her grands on Mother's Day!  It's rare to have them all together so a picture was required!

Sweet Ellie!

Lynn and her young'uns.  I don't remember what was so funny but Ed is smiling.  It must have been good! ha!

Me and the best kids ever!

I bought my mom a swimsuit!  She hates swimsuit shopping (who doesn't) but I found the perfect suit.  It met all her requirements!

Photobombed - Maybe my dad was smiling all day!  ha

Much better!  She really is the best mom ever.  So lucky she is mine!

Goodbye April

Here we find ourselves in the month of May.  I heard someone say yesterday that April evaporated and I agree.  April was my busiest month at work so it really flew by because we were so busy.

As for the other things going on last week - Monday Lindy and I had a big day.  Earlier this year I applied for a grant program for new hearing aids from UNC Chapel Hill.  They have a program that will pay for new hearing aids.  I've heard it's for kids like Lindy who don't qualify for Medicaid and whose insurance doesn't cover hearing aids.  That's us!  Our insurance covers no audio.   She got accepted and we patiently waited for the process to begin.  We finally got the initial appointments set for last Monday, April 25th.

It ended up being a wild morning.  Drew was going to take Will to school for me so Lindy and I could head to Chapel Hill.  Will had not been feeling well on Sunday and on Monday morning he woke up and said his ears hurt.  He got dressed but I could tell he wasn't feeling great.  He ate and brushed his teeth but when I found him in the living room he had his hands on his ears and I knew they hurt.  He doesn't ever complain about his ears so I knew they must really hurt.  After much scurrying around, Drew headed to the 8am walk-in clinic with him and sure enough he had double ear infections.  They said the last ear infection he had was in 2013.  Drew couldn't take a day off to watch him so after they were finished Drew took him to Mimo's house for a little bit.  Mimo wasn't able to watch him all day though because she was watching baby Ellie all last week.  I called my mom at 7am to see if one of them could come get him.  My mom got ready and headed to get him from Lynn's.  They headed to get his prescription and back home.  She said you could tell he didn't feel good all morning but after a dose of medicine and some Tylenol he was feeling better in the afternoon.

In the meantime, Lindy and I headed to Chapel Hill to her first appointment.  Actually her first appointment was in Durham.  We went to one of their audiologists and did her normal hearing tests which came back all the same as the ones we do at Brenner.  She grew bored towards the end but we got through it.  The funny thing was the audiologist was asking questions about her past and Lindy basically answered everything herself.  Between talking about it and reading the old blog books I had made from this blog - she knows her medical history.  I guess I can just start chauffeuring her around.  She doesn't need me!  ha!  We finished that appointment and then we headed over to UNC to the main hospital to see one of their ENT's.  He had to give her medical clearance to be in the program and we got that.  Another doctor, I guess a resident or something, came in first and checked her ears.  She got to clean wax out of Lindy's ears, which is always fun...  not.  But she got it and everything looked fine.

My best friend from high school works at UNC and our appointments finished right at lunch time so we were able to meet up for lunch.  Lindy and I enjoyed our lunch date.  We don't get to see Carrie nearly as much as we'd like.   We finally headed on home after a full day.  Lindy kept rubbing it in to Will that she was skipping school on Monday but turns out no one went to school.

The rest of the week was much less eventful.  Lindy took a turn on her bike and tipped over.  She was dramatic to the extreme.  She did get scraped up and it definitely scared her but she played it up good.  She told me it was very hard to cope with such a stressful situation.  ha!

Friday night we went out to eat and the kids had their first Waffle House experience.  We were the only ones there at 6pm.   Drew was so excited for them.  We get excited about different things I guess!

Saturday I was gone to another March for Babies walk.  3 down - 2 to go.  Almost there!  Drew took Will to tennis at 10:30am but they skipped baseball this week.  Instead they went to see the Wizard of Oz production at a local theatre.  They went with friends from Lindy's SEE camp.  Drew and Will both gave it rave reviews and Lindy said it was good.  They were farther back than normal so I doubt she could see as well.  Drew said she slept most of the first half.  They did get to go early and go on stage to see the set.  They got to meet Dorothy and Toto.  I'm sure Lindy was all over Toto.  Drew didn't take any pics (grrrrr!!!) but I'm hopeful the director of the SEE camp will be emailing some.  I met the family back at home that evening for dinner and we did nothing.  The kids watched a movie.  Will chose Elf - in April!

Sunday was a day full of church and chores.  We had no food in the house so I got a menu and grocery list done and then we divided and conquered.  Will and I headed to Walmart and Drew and Lindy to Sam's Club.  We got home and unloaded and Will and I went to play some tennis because we all got new tennis rackets.

That sums up the week.  I took few pictures this week though.
