Weekend Trip to Charlotte

This week was an interesting weather week in NC.  Monday the kids got out of school 3 hours early because of the weather forecast.  I dropped them off at school and picked them up 3 hours later.  It did in fact sleet and snow that afternoon – just enough to cancel school on Tuesday.  It was not much fun to work from home this week.  They see us and they think we should be playing with them.  They don’t understand that we are there – but we are working.  A bit tough for them – and us – who have to tell them no a bunch.

It wasn’t enough to cancel our Fat Tuesday pancake supper at church though.  It was actually a fundraiser for our March for Babies team and we made a ton of money!  We were so excited.  We got up there early to help set up and decorate.  The kids started out as helpers and then wound up playing in the classrooms.

We got two more days of school in and then guess what, it did it all again on Thursday evening.  This time we got 3+ inches of sleet and snow and school was cancelled on Friday.  We have had 8 snow days this year.  TOO many!!

We woke up Friday morning to a really chilly house.  Thankfully we had power – just no heat.  They made it out to our house that afternoon and the fan was not working right.  They replaced something and thankfully the heat started working again.

We had plans to go to Charlotte and the heating man said the main roads were fine so we packed up and headed out late in the afternoon.  The kids were very excited to go see GrandBob and Suzette.  We had a yummy dinner and the kids had fun playing.  After we put them to bed the grown ups played Phase 10 and I staged a come back victory and won.  Old Bob thought he was going to beat me for the first time ever.  I planned it all.  I let him think that.  I acted like I was losing and then I turned it on and came back to win.  It’s so much fun beating Bob.  I do it so often – but it’s still fun, every single time!

Saturday Drew had a meeting to go to and Suzette and I ran over to Costco.  We had a nice time just looking around.  Neither of us ever get the chance to just take our time and look.  We got back and had lunch and then we all headed out to an old gold mine.  They had taken the kids last summer and we headed back out there again.  Suzette and Lindy decided they weren’t going in so they hung out in the visitors’ center.  Bob, Drew, Will and I walked around and checked it all out.  It was the perfect trip for everyone because randomly enough they had just gotten a Blackbeard pirate exhibit.  Lindy was in pirate heaven!  Suzette said they walked around and then they had some coloring pages.  Lindy found some Jake pages and colored away.  It was pretty interesting to see and read about the gold they mined way back when.  We went back to Bob and Suzette’s and we played outside for a long time because the weather was so nice.   Will had a little basketball and we were playing with that.   After a couple amazing shots on my behalf, I suggested a game of HORSE.  Guess who cleaned Drew and Bob’s clocks?  ME!  Again!  There is not much else in life that brings me more joy than beating Bob in something.  What a glorious weekend trip it was!  We ate an early dinner and then we headed home.  The kids fell asleep around 7pm and they were sacks of potatoes we carried inside and changed into pjs.  It was a lot of fun getting Lindy awake enough to take some medicine. ha!  I think they didn’t really lose an hour of sleep since they went to bed so early.

When we got home last night it was cold in our house again.  The heat had stopped working again.  Boo.  59F in the house this morning was chilly.  Because we got home so late I had to give them baths this morning.  Brrr.  I shut the door to the bathroom and had everything to dress them inside the bathroom.  It was the warmest place in the house for a little bit.  We headed to church to get warm and this afternoon the kids and I ran errands.  They spent some money they got for Valentine’s Day at Target.  Will got Monopoly Jr. and Lindy got some Jake puzzles and figures.  That girl is wild for Jake!

That wraps up our lives for the last two weeks.

Catching Up

Oh my…It’s been so long.  It’s been a rather nightmarish experience I’ve had with a tech department at an office store.  I was (still am) trying to get my data off my old computer (that went on the fritz at Xmas) onto my new computer.  I dropped it off 1.5 weeks ago and I finally picked them both up today but my problem has yet to be solved. uggg.  I had no computer the past two weeks, hence no post.

Where to start.  On Feb. 25th Will had his end of year (the end of his career – for the foreseeable future anyway) basketball party at the Y.  They had a bounce house and some snacks and they got a trophy.  The line for the bounce house was so long and so well regulated they only got to go in one time before it shut down.  Will was proud to get his trophy and Lindy was so sad she didn’t get one she cried.  Poor girl doesn’t understand why she can’t participate and get trophies. Breaks my heart.

Friday after school Lindy had a little friend from school come home with her.  Her name is Ruby and she is so cute!  She is little like Lindy.  I wondered what a girls’ play date versus boys’ play date would be like and, man, are they different.  Lindy and Ruby were so quiet and played so nicely.  Will and his buddy ran wild around the house screaming.  Huge difference!  I like girl play dates better! ha

Friday night we went with our neighbors out to our old stomping grounds – although we did something we’ve never done before.  We lived in Stokes Co. for 7 years and yet we never went to hear bluegrass music at Priddy’s General Store – until last Friday night.  It’s an old general store and they have a back part where people play their music and others dance.  People bring bag and lawn chairs and sit around and listen.  Lindy had a ball dancing while Will was being a stick in the mud.  After some dancing Lindy crawled up in my neighbor Jasmine’s lap and crashed!  She was out!  Will was soon dragging and quite possibly fell asleep on Drew.  Friday night after a full week of school is a tough time!

Saturday morning Drew got up and tried to sign Lindy up for tee ball at the Walkertown Little League.  They said they had a Challenger Division for her to play in.  He got out there and they said they don’t think they have enough kids to play.  That child is playing though – we are just going to have to do it at another location.  A location much less desirable.  uggg.   She will play and she better get a trophy!!

Will had a birthday party for a friend from school at Adventure Landing.  At first I was going to just drop Will off and take Lindy with me to the mall.  We got there and they said Lindy could stay as well.  I kept saying I was going to take her but she made me feel horrible so we ended up staying.  The puppy dog eyes won.   They got to play games and a round of putt putt.  30 mins. after arriving they had pizza for the kids. Because I thought I was taking Lindy, I fed her lunch at home.  I told her she couldn’t eat anything, she could just wait for cake.  While the other kids were eating, apparently she was drinking  (a lot of ) lemonade.  The cake finally came and she took one bite and said her belly hurt.  We quickly headed to the bathroom.  Half way there she said she was fine.  We headed back and I gave her one tiny bite of cake and she made her retching sound so I yanked her up and we headed to the bathroom again.  Half way there she puked all over the floor.  uggggggggggg.  I knew I should have taken her to the mall with me.  I was so mad!!

We left there and we drove over to my parents’ house to visit them.  We hadn’t been there since Xmas and it was our first real chance to get there.  We checked out what they had done with the house and we went out to eat.  We ate at a BBQ restaurant that had an honest to God school bus inside.  And we got to eat in the school bus.  A definite first for me!  The kids thought it was pretty cool.  We gave them a quick bath at my parents’ and we headed home that night.  The kids were out before we hit the highway.

I think that sums up that week.  At least what I remember of it.

The pictures I did take are below.

End of Basketball

The kids didn’t have much going on this week.  Will did have his last basketball game of the season.  Maybe of his life.  ha ha.

The season was a bit rough for awhile but I think he got over the buzzer (for the most part) and actually had fun the last few games.

His game was cancelled last Saturday because of the snow and they made it up on Tuesday night.  My parents came over to watch his game and get a good laugh from it.  It was our night to bring snacks too.  It was another wild work week and I made what I could over the weekend.  I made cupcakes Sunday night and went to frost them Monday night but I couldn’t find the frosting.  It was gone.  Drew went to get more Tuesday for me.  Thankfully they helped frost the cupcakes for me so we could get to the game.  (I eventually found the frosting – it had dropped in the recycling box in the pantry).

Friday Drew and I went and ate lunch with the kids at school.  I had lunch with Will and his friend James at 11:10am.  Drew came to eat lunch with Lindy at 11:30am and they ended up sitting with us as well.  I went back to Will’s class with him and got to read their afternoon story.  It was fun and I think the kids liked it.  Lindy is a funny girl.  Drew walked with Lindy back to her class after lunch but first they stopped at the bathroom.  Lindy’s teacher lets them play the quiet game in the hall.  She picks someone she thinks is being really quiet.  That person gets to come up and pick someone they think is being really quiet.  This little girl was up there and Drew said Lindy kept whispering “Charlotte, pick me”  Totally not being quiet.  For whatever reason, Charlotte picked Lindy.  Lindy got up there and said, “I pick Drew Southern!”  Drew had to go be the next person.  He said all the kids thought it was hilarious!  Lindy is too funny.

After a long week at work (with 3 very early mornings) I got off a bit early from work on Friday and got home before the kids.  We decided to go see the Lego movie.  We watched the show and came back for a late dinner.  It was a cute movie.  Lindy ended up on my lap but did pretty well otherwise.

Saturday Will had a friend, Jacob, over to play.  He came at 11:30am and stayed a couple hours.  We ended up outside because it was so pretty out.  They rode their Jeep, bikes, played soccer and jumped on the stomp rocket.  I think they all had fun.  Jacob left and Lindy and I ran out for a few errands.  I had to bribe her to get her to come with me.

I’m glad this week is over.  We had 5 March of Dimes kick offs in three days and it was exhausting.  I had to be somewhere at 6am two days in a row and somewhere (30 mins from my house) at 7:30am another day.  There were some late nights getting ready too.  But they are over and they went well.

Today we had church and a pot luck at church.  We played outside because the weather was beautiful again.  We practiced a little baseball since both are going to be playing this spring!  We are signing Lindy up for a Challenger league and she is so excited.

It’s been a great weekend!  Here are some pictures.
