Fall Fun

Another week and we’re inching towards the end of October.

Last week held a family advisory council meeting for me at Brenner Children’s Hospital.  We got to meet the new super cool robot they recently got and we got to tour the PICU.  The PICU looked great – nice and bright.  I just hope we never have to see the inside because we have a child there.

The rest of the week was our usual humdrum of activity.  The week was spent rooting the KC Royals on to victory and the World Series!  Thankfully there were a couple late afternoon games.  Lindy started in with a running/stuffed up nose (only she could do it at the same time) so Lindy and I stayed home Friday to watch the Royals.  We also went to Target to check out all the Paw Patrol toys.  We definitely got her Xmas list started.  Drew and Will headed to the Wake Forest Soccer game and cheered them on to a victory over Notre Dame.  It ended up being a good sports night for both our teams as the Royals pulled out a win and are headed to the World Series!

Saturday was another busy day – aren’t they all.  Wake Forest had a football game at noon so Drew and Lindy headed out to tailgate before the game.  Will had tennis lessons that we headed to and then we headed to the football game.  We got there half way through the first quarter and Wake was already down two touchdowns.  The game wasn’t too pretty but the afternoon was.  It was a beautiful fall afternoon to be at a game – no matter the final outcome of the game.

Sunday we had church and then we headed out to a new corn maze.  We’ve gone to a corn maze every year since 2010 but we’ve always had to go out of town because we didn’t have a local one.  This year the Children’s Home in Winston-Salem did a corn maze so we stayed local to check it out.  It was one of the more difficult corn mazes we’ve ever done.  The questions they gave you that were supposed to give directions were practically useless and the map was too confusing, except for Drew who finally had to take over and lead us out.  Will walked the whole way and Lindy walked about half way.  There were random hills in the maze which were surprising! The kids had fun doing all the fall activities out there.  Lindy loved the corn pit and Will liked the big slides and apple cannon.  It turned out to be a beautiful –if not a bit hot – afternoon.  We had a hankering for breakfast for dinner afterwards so after trying 3 different restaurants which were all closed, we headed to IHOP and then home.

Pictures of our weekend fun are below.

Middle of October

I couldn’t think of a better title.  We had a good week.  Mostly for me because it included some time off!  I took Monday off to catch up on everything I didn’t get done last week from the event.   I got a new tire, car inspected, flu shot, shopping for birthday presents for 3 family members, surprised the kids for lunch, and grocery shopping.  All before 2:45pm.  It felt great to take a day and get it all done instead of running during lunch and getting one thing done each day.  The kids were surprised to see me at lunch time.  Will picked the same boy, Bowen, to sit with us and Lindy picked Sarah.  I enjoyed my lunches with them.

Tuesday was a regular day but Wednesday was an early release day at school and I took the afternoon off again.   I let them do some messy stuff which was well – messy.  They got to write their spelling words in shaving cream which I think will be the last time we do that.  We can check it off the list as having tried it.  ha!  They also played with crazy sand which just ends up everywhere.  We all enjoyed our afternoon at home.

Thursday was picture day at school and Friday we met Ms. Martha for dinner.  We ate at the Mexican restaurant by our old house and then we walked across the parking lot to Krispy Kreme.  Yum!   It was nice to catch up with our friend!

Saturday Will got to have tennis again.  His class has three little girls and him.   He seems to enjoy it and his coach is pretty funny.  They play games so he has a lot of fun.  Lindy did not want to go to practice but I made her go and she ended up loving it.  One of the other little girl’s dad was there with their new puppy.  Lindy was all over the puppy and the dad let her hold the lease.  She must have told him 156 times she was a dog expert if he had any questions.  She also told him, “I dread the holidays as a dog owner.”  ha ha ha!  That girl cracks me up!

We headed to my parents’ house after lunch to spend time with my mom, whose birthday was on Friday.  She turned 40!  wink wink!  Their best friends from Vermont were down visiting so it was great to see them.  We had big plans to go to a hot air balloon festival but we ended up staying home.   We started reading comments about the organization, parking, and wait times and we bailed.  It sounded awful.  Instead we  stayed and watched the Royals win their second game of the series with a come back victory.  We stayed for pizza for dinner and headed home.

Today we have had church and cleaning and laundry.   No fun to do but always nice to have a clean house and clothes!

Enjoy a few pictures from the week.

2015 Dixie Classic Fair

What a busy busy week we had.  Drew finished training and started flying solo in his job.  It was an event week for me – one of seven in the year.  All converging on the same time!

The kids had to go with the flow and adjust to a slightly different schedule but we all made it through.  Monday and Tuesday were slightly normal.  I picked them up later at afterschool on Tuesday and traffic was awful so we were much later getting home.  We sent the kids to afterschool on Wednesday instead of Thursday and Drew picked them up so I could work late.

Thursday was my actual event day so we called in grandparent support.  Bob and Suzette came up and picked the kids up from school – at 12:25pm.  We let the kids get out of school early so they could go to the Dixie Classic Fair.   Don’t judge!  They missed lunch, recess and science.  I told them not to run in and tell their teachers because it wasn’t a great excuse.  Will mentioned he could say it was a dentist appointment.  Then we had to have a conversation about not lying.  I was just saying you don’t have to broadcast it.  I’m 100% sure Lindy went in and broadcast it!

I hear they had a blast and there was no throw up (Lindy puked last year at the fair for them!).  They got a wrist band and got to ride the rides.   We appreciate Bob and Suzette helping us out but I think Bob likes the fair as much as the kids!

Friday I got the kids from school and came home to mow.  We ate dinner with our new neighbors Friday night.  They have an 8 year old daughter as well.  We enjoyed our evening making new friends.  The kids did well but got antsy towards the end.  The restaurant was super slow that night.

Saturday morning Will FINALLY got to have his first tennis lesson.  He was so excited!  There were 3 other kids there, all girls.  He said he had fun.  Drew and Lindy took him to practice because I had to go to a NICU reunion for work.  I ran a few errands afterwards and came home for an evening at home.  We had other plans that got rained out so we stayed at home.

Today we had church and then we headed back to the Dixie Classic Fair.  We knew it would be a crazy busy weekend since it was ending, it was finally sunny and warm, and kids get in free!  But Drew and I hadn’t been yet so we braved the crowds.  We told the kids no riding rides, that we were just going to look at exhibits, animals and eat food.  It was a beautiful day that actually got kind of hot.  We were there from 1-5pm and headed home.  The fair is always a family favorite activity.

Thankfully this week looks to be much slower.

Thursday at the fair!
