Moving On Into November

November 1st was picture day at school.  It was tough being the night after Halloween because it meant the kids had to take showers, no matter how late it was.  Lindy forgot to take off her coat - again!  She did it last fall too.  She said they made one last call for pictures at the end of the day and she remembered she didn't take her coat off and convinced her teacher to let her go take another one.   When we got them back though, it was the original one with her coat on.  At least it was open, was just a plain coat and kind of matched her shirt.  I wish teachers would take a quick look at what the kids are wearing and suggest they take off coats, etc.

We had Family Fun Night at the kids' school on Friday, November 3rd.  It's one of the highlights of the school year.  It's a big school carnival where they can play all sorts of games and activities.  Lindy's group of friends met up and she palled around with them all night.  She wanted to do it by herself but the other moms were with their girls so I stayed with her too.  Drew and Will ended up hanging together most of the night.

Saturday, November 4th, our family and my mom walked in the JDRF walk in honor of my niece Hayley.  She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 6 years old - she is 14 now.  She doesn't remember a life without it.  We wish we could walk with her but we show our support walking here.

That afternoon I went to Raleigh for the night for a reunion of sorts with some college friends.  Not everyone was there but I got to see some friends I don't see very often.  It was fun to catch up and funny to figure out that all but one of us has a 4th grader - mostly girls.

Sunday, November 5th, we celebrated Will's Special Day.  His true Special Day, the day he came home from the NICU, was on Monday but we let them choose an activity to do and he chose going to Celebration Station in Greensboro.  It's an arcade, go cart track, putt putt place.  Right up Will's alley.  We did it all too. Will rode with me in the go cart, he played putt putt with Drew and then they both played a bunch of arcade games.  Will's day was made when he hit the jackpot, 1000 tickets on this one game.  Glad it happened to him on his special day or he would have been mad if it happened to Lindy on his special day!  ha!

Monday was his true special day and he woke up to balloons and a sign.  I went and ate lunch with him and his buddy, JT, at school.  I had a little experience trying to get him lunch.  He requested McDonalds so I pulled up at 10:20am to get his cheeseburger, only to find out they don't serve lunch till 10:30am.  He eats lunch at 10:40am.  I walked inside and they let me order and it was ready at 10:30am.  I got to school about 2 minutes late, but I made it with his McDonalds!  He eats the very first lunch at school - more of a brunch!  We let him choose a place to eat dinner and he chose the Waffle House.

It was a good Special Day - until bedtime when it turned into a bad Special Day.  Will and Drew both ended up sick that  night.  Right at bedtime, Will was crying about how bad his stomach hurt.  Before we knew it, he was getting sick.  He threw up a few times and thankfully rested the rest of the night.  He did not feel great that morning though so we decided to let him stay home.  Early that morning, Drew started getting sick too.  It's still undecided whether it was a bug or the Waffle House.  Lindy and I ate the same things they did so I don't exactly know how it'd be the food.  Thankfully the girls didn't get it though.

I had meetings for both the kids on November 8th.  Lindy's annual IEP meeting was first thing that morning and Will's end of quarter conference was that afternoon.  Both went well.  Nothing much changed for Lindy's IEP but they do throw in words like, next year when we write it, we'll have to put stuff in for middle school."  AGAGAGAG.  I cannot handle talk like that!!

The kids were out of school on Friday, November 10th so I took off another day to stay with them.   We didn't do much but the dog had a vet appointment that morning.  That night I went with Lynn and Jamie to a pottery class and we made a lidded jar.  I made a lidded jar!  It was fun to do and I like how it turned out.

The next day we  went to the Heart and Stroke walk in memory of our friend, Cory, from our old church.  He was 27 years old and died of a heart attack this summer.  It was so sad to think an amazing young man is gone.  We met up with friends from our old church and walked with them.  It was so incredibly cold out that morning.  We bundled up and made it but brrrrr!!

That's Lindy shooting the principal with silly string! ha!
