Fun Weekend

It’s time for another post.  The time comes around so fast each week.   Monday I picked the kids up from school and headed home with them.  It was so nice to spend the afternoon with them!  We played outside for a little while, did homework, made dinner.  It was nice!

Tuesday morning I went to science with Lindy.  I didn’t tell her I was coming and she was so excited to see me in the science room!  Tuesday evening Will had a tee ball game.  I need to start saying ball game because he never uses the tee.  They pitch to every kid and after about 6 pitches if they haven’t hit they get the tee.  Will has used the tee one time the entire year.  So it’s definitely not tee ball for him.

Lindy had a bad week at school.  She got her card pulled TWICE.  agag!  Thursday and Friday.  Thursday was because she hadn’t been doing her morning work.  Her teacher said she just hadn’t done it for two mornings and hadn’t done any writing in writing workshop the day before.  She must have kindergartenitis.  As soon as she got her card pulled she did her morning work.  She kept saying it was hard but her teacher said it wasn’t.  Friday she got her card pulled because she ignored her teachers.  They asked her if her hearing aids were working and she ignored them.   She changed her story 20 times so I don’t know if she did hear her or not.  She lost privileges at home and she wasn’t happy about it.

I do think she has a lot of wax in her ears.  I started the drops to loosen the wax but it’s hard because where is it supposed to go?  She has hearing aids in for over 12 hours a day.  I’ve been doing them during the night so it can drain out.  I also flushed her ears out with water and the bulb syringe.  My mom had to do it on me all the time growing up and I finally got brave enough to try it on her.  I did get wax out so that was good.  Just in case she couldn’t hear her teachers, I tried to get rid of some of the wax this weekend.

Friday night Drew and I did something really cool to celebrate our anniversary.  We couldn’t do much on our actual anniversary since it was also Mother’s Day.  Friday evening we did a Segway tour around downtown Winston-Salem.  They did a great training in the parking lot and then they took us on a 2 hour tour all over WS.  It was so cool and something so different and unique.  We went to dinner afterwards and then home.  We really appreciate our neighbors offering to watch the kids so we could go out and celebrate 12 years of wedded bliss.

Saturday was a busy, busy day.  One I was really looking forward to sleeping in on since I didn’t have a March for Babies walk.  Too bad Lindy woke up at 6:24am.  I guess it’s better than 4am but it was still too early.  It did give us a chance to get up and get ready and out the door for Will’s ball game at 10am.  He had a good game.  He got one of the best hits I’ve seen him have.  We left his game and Drew and Will headed to the Southern Family Reunion.  Lindy and I headed to her tee ball game.  I finally got to see her play tee ball!  Yay!  It was a lot of fun to see her out there having fun.  She can really hit the ball off the tee well!  Which is funny because I’m sure she’s not keeping her eyes on it!  ha!  They got to bat three times and they played out in the field three times.  There were some boys from other teams that played against them.  She had a blast.  We left the game and headed to the reunion at Miller Park.  We enjoyed seeing the family.  GrandBob and Suzette came over after for a little bit.

Today we had church, a spaghetti lunch after church, and then a birthday party for a boy in our church.  Then I went grocery shopping.  Busy but fun day!  The birthday party was at the bowling alley and the kids were so excited about it.  For the first time ever, Will bowled for real – without the ramp.  He still had bumpers up but no ramp.  Lindy technically beat him but she used the ramp.

It was a busy and fun week and we are looking for another one this week.

Mother’s Day 2014

Mother’s Day was yesterday!  Yay me!  But as usual, let’s start at the beginning of the week.

Lindy had PT on Monday with Jill.  Drew took her and said she did well.  She did one true jump while standing on her left foot which is new.  She has been able to jump on her right foot but couldn’t get those toes off the ground on her left foot.  She finally did it!  She has been doing a lot better with standing on one foot on the left side too.  Jill fixed all her braces and by the end said she could wear her SMO (short brace) for the next two months.  She said to come back in July and we’ll see how she looks.

Wednesday Lindy had HI/VI field day.  This year she rode the bus with the other visually impaired kids from her school and her vision teachers.  It started at 10am and Drew met her there.  She had a fun morning and got to see a lot of her old classmates from her hearing impaired preschool classroom.  I ran over at lunch and got to see her old preschool teacher, Ms. Asbury, and I got to see her old classmates.  They have all grown up so much!  It was like a mini reunion!  It was a beautiful day out and I know she had fun.  They have held it at BB&T Field (Wake’s football stadium) for the past few years and that is always neat.  This year we got to go in the locker rooms to go to the bathroom.  It was kind of cool to see in their locker room!  Each locker had a list of names on it and that was fun to see all the old and new names on the lockers.  For the first time ever Lindy got a t-shirt that fit.  When she was 3 they were like a dress on her and the older she has gotten the better they fit.  This year it actually fit!  I guess she is growing too!

Friday night I met the family for dinner at O’Charley’s.  We enjoyed ourselves and the dinner.  Saturday morning I was up at 4:20am for my last March for Babies of the season.  I can’t wait to sleep in next week!  We had a walk in Mount Airy on Saturday that turned out to be great!  Much larger crowd of people than we expected and we are going to hit our goal!  It was a good day!

I hurried home because we had friends coming over for dinner that night.  It was one of Drew’s oldest friends and his family that live in Greensboro.  We had a great time and wish we could see them more often.  They are moving to Cary next month.  They have a daughter who is in kindergarten and a 3 year old son.   Will and Hannah got along well.  Hannah walked in dressed up as Izzy from Jake and the Neverland Pirates!  We couldn’t believe it!!

Sunday was my day.  Well it was my special Mother’s Day but it was also another special day for Drew and me – our 12th wedding anniversary!!   There was lots to celebrate on Sunday.  Drew started the day making French Toast and bacon for me.  We went to church and then stopped at home for a quick lunch and change of clothes.  We headed to my parents’ to see my mom.  It’s the first mother’s day I’ve spent with her in a very long time!  We got there and we quickly changed and we got to take our inaugural dip in their new swimming pool!  The water was 80F and felt good!  A bit cold at first but you got used to it quickly.  The kids loved it and had a blast.  Lindy stayed in for 2 hours.  Will, the one with no meat on his bones, got cold a couple times and got out a couple times to warm up.  They can’t swim yet but I’m hoping by the end of the summer they will know how to swim.  We played for a couple hours and then we ate a delicious steak dinner.  We basically ate and ran because we had to get home and get the kids to school.  Drew and I plan to celebrate our anniversary another weekend.

That sums things up!  Enjoy some pictures!

PIctures from Lindy’s HI/VI field day.  Lindy goes to the school in town that has a full time vision teacher.  There are about 8-10 visually impaired kids at this school.  There is an older student, Olivia, who has hearing aids and she has taken a liking to Lindy.  And vice versa really.  Lindy likes her too.  Olivia rode over with the vision students and then hung out with them too.  She loves to help Lindy and Lindy loves hanging out with her.  15IMG_4549

Lindy filled out a questionnaire on me.  My name is Mom, my favorite store is Sam’s Club, I’m good at cooking, and I like to play outside with Lindy.

Allergies

The theme this week has been allergies.  Everyone has been affected by them.  Some worse than others.  Most of the week was pretty boring around here.

Wednesday Lindy started coughing a bunch and when we put her to bed she ended up throwing up twice.  She had a low fever too so we ended up putting her in our bed for the night.  She woke up Thursday morning just a mess.  If the kids ever wake up saying they don’t feel good we usually get them up and ready and tell them to eat some and then they usually are fine.  Thursday morning Lindy woke up and just started crying.  We knew she didn’t feel good.  She ended up getting a day off of school and a day home with Mommy.  She laid on my bed watching tv all morning and definitely didn’t feel good.  Drew brought home some popsicles and she seemed to perk up some after a couple popsicles.  She slept well Thursday night and was back to school on Friday morning.

Thursday night Will had a tee ball game.  Since I have been working most weekends at March for Babies walks, I took him to the game while Drew stayed with Lindy.  He is doing well in tee ball this year.  I think he has only hit off the tee one time.  He is getting better hits each game.  He still has a lot to learn about fielding but he is by far one of the most mature on his team.  There are some other really young kids on his team.   He is having fun and that’s all that matters.

Saturday I was at another walk and both kids had tee ball games, at almost the same time.  Jamie and Molly came to the help and took Lindy to her game.  This time she had Jacob helping her.  I never heard what happened to Jared but Jamie said Jacob grew on her.  Drew took Will to his game and said he did well.  When I got home we did yard work outside.   We were all exhausted and all went to bed early.

Today we had church and a potluck at church.  I got a lot of work done around the house which was nice.  I had been working on switching out closets all week and finally got that all done today.  It’s one thing to switch my winter and summer clothes from one closet to another but it sucks to have to go through all the kids’ clothes to see what I think will fit next winter and then pack up the ones that are too small.  It’s no small task.  But it’s done, for now!

Not too many pictures this week.
