Easter Weekend Activities

We had a great Easter weekend with lots of fun activities.  Hence the picture overload you are about to witness.

Our Easter weekend started with the arrival of Nana and Papa late on Thursday night.

Our Good Friday started with a trip to the mall to see the Easter Bunny.  I ended up having to be in the picture because Miss Lindy quickly decided she didn’t like the Easter Bunny.  Will didn’t love him but he did at least sit on his lap.  It took multiple attempts to get a half-way decent picture.  Nana then treated the kids to a carousel ride at the mall as well.  Except Lindy didn’t think that was much of a treat either!  Nana had to hold her on the horse or she’d have been off in two seconds!  Nana, Lindy, Will and I then headed to Greensboro to meet up with my mom’s friend Betsy.  We had lunch and shopped the afternoon away.  At the beginning of the day Will couldn’t say ‘Nana’ but by mid-afternoon he was practically screaming it whenever she’d walk off.  Of course Nana was loving it!  We ended up meeting my dad, Betsy’s husband (Randy) and Drew for dinner in Greensboro and then headed home.  The kids did good on our long shopping day.  Lindy fell asleep and took a decent nap and Will never fell asleep until the ride home.

Saturday afternoon I had plans to go to a nearby church that had a sign out front that read ‘Community Easter Egg Hunt.’  We thought it would be fun since it’s really the first year they could actually hunt for eggs and know what to do. Will had been saying ‘Find eggs’ the whole ride down there and it was so cute! We arrived at 3pm and were directed into the fellowship hall.  There ended up being around 15 kids there.  The lady in charge told us ‘There are right many eggs out there’ so we headed out.  Of course the older kids sprinted ahead and left the little ones in the back.  No joke – there might have been 20 eggs.  It was the worst, most depressing Easter egg hunt I’d ever seen.  Drew and Lindy found one egg and we had to hide it again for poor Will so it looked like he found one. The group was headed back into the fellowship hall but we went ahead and left.  We were sorely disappointed by the kids’ first Easter egg hunt!  But it’s a story we’ll probably never forget!

After lunch the kids took a nap and we played an egg rolling game and a monkey bean bag toss game.  I had a come-from-behind victory in the bean bag toss game.  It was awesome!  During my exuberant victory lap around the yard I had to dodge many a bean bag being thrown my way from all the men I beat!  DSC_0061 DSC_0060 DSC_0067 DSC_0069 DSC_0086 DSC_0109DSC_0098DSC_0107DSC_0135DSC_0113DSC_0119DSC_0126DSC_0130DSC_0139DSC_0150DSC_0167DSC_0171DSC_0169DSC_0185DSC_0180DSC_0191DSC_0193DSC_0198DSC_0204DSC_0207DSC_0214

Fun Times

We have had a fairly quiet week with appointments but from the pictures I’ve taken the kids have had a good time this week.  The weather turned gorgeous, almost hot today, so we have been outside most every afternoon.

Tuesday morning we had hearing therapy with Chris.  We played with Easter eggs and Lindy did better picking two critical elements. Wednesday morning we had vision therapy with Lesley.  Lesley made the kids the neatest action books.  All the pictures are of Lindy and Will doing things (eating, drinking, swinging, kissing).  Lindy needs practice recognizing pictures like this so they are great.  She also made shakers with the kids and they both really enjoyed it.  Lindy did awesome picking up little beads and putting them in a water bottle.  The kids really have played a lot with these shakers this week.

We played outside a lot this week.  One day we cut back monkey grass and yesterday we put out pine needles.  We have two little helpers when we are working.  The kids have both learned to climb up the ladder on the swing set which is great but makes me nervous!  Yesterday they came in with grass stains and chalk stains and they had a great time.  Mama has to get over the kids getting dirty outside!

Will’s speech has continued to amaze us.  He talks in two word and now three word phrases all the time now.  He is repeating a lot and just surprising us often with words he knows.  It’s just such a crazy transition from just two months ago.  When getting Will to go into his room I often have to count to three.  One day this week Drew told him he was going to count to three and Will said, “One, Two, Three.”  He counted himself!

I’ve heard of older kids or one kid talking for the other kids and I wonder if that is happening a little with Lindy and Will.  I ask Lindy a question and Will answers.  I ask Lindy to say something and Will says it.  I think that will hurt Lindy as far as her speech goes though.  She needs to get assertive with her voice!

The kids have had lots of runny noses (and drainage for Lindy).  We finally got some Claritin and started both kids on it.  Lindy had a horrible hacking cough in the beginning of the week and that has thankfully gone away.  She has thrown up a couple times too but I’m just sure it’s from the drainage.  I spent one night with her on the couch but she is sleeping better since the cough has gotten better.

Happy Easter weekend!  We are excited to see my parents who are driving down and should be here in a couple hours.
