E-X-H-A-U-S-T-I-N-G Week

Of course Lindy caught whatever it was that Will had last week.  So two weeks of this has gotten really old.  Two weeks of sleepless nights is about my limit.  Thankfully we are seeing an improvement today.

It started exactly one week after Will got it.  I put the kids to bed Monday night and they both threw a fit.  Well I found out a little later that Lindy also threw up.  But this isn’t all that new.  She gets mad and throws up pretty often these days.  When I was trying to clean up a little bit she woke up again and started throwing up some more.  As soon as I touched her I knew she had a fever.  The fever lasted until Saturday!  Because Will had a virus last week we didn’t take her to the doctor.  Most of the time she didn’t act like she felt that horrible.  Except night time when she couldn’t sleep well at all.  Will’s fever broke and he felt fine after four days so we figured Lindy would do the same.  Instead she seemed worse on Friday.  As the week went on she got more and more congested.  I talked to the nurse at the doctors’ office on Friday for ideas on how to get the congestion loosened up.  She said if she still had a fever on Saturday to call and they would see her.  Saturday she woke up and acted like she felt bad again, with a little crud in her eye, but the fever was gone.  We went outside for awhile and she acted okay so I thought she was really getting over it.  But she woke up from her nap with an eye full of crud so I called the doctors’ office again and got her an appointment for Sunday afternoon.  Friday and Saturday she was the biggest mama’s girl ever.  She only wanted me and she wanted me to hold her all day long.  She woke up Sunday acting almost normal so we wondered if it was going to be a waste of time to take her to the doctor, but it turns out that she has double ear infections and conjunctivitis.  Lindy has her second ear infection in a month now.  We started her antibiotics and prayed we got sleep last night.  Although she stirred a few times, she mostly slept through the night.  Which means we slept through the night.  She slept until 9:15am this morning!  She must have been exhausted!

This week has been pretty crazy.  We had hearing therapy with Chris on Monday afternoon.  I honestly can’t remember what we did in the session.  I cancelled her physical therapy session Tuesday morning.  Wednesday morning Leslie came for vision therapy.  I remember they did puzzles and an art project.  Thursday afternoon both kids had speech therapy with Lawson.   Lindy had just woken up from a nap and was a little out of it.   I also cancelled an appointment Thursday morning for Lindy.  We were supposed to go pick up her hearing aids that were sent in for work like 6 weeks ago.  I cancelled the appointments we were going to have to take her to but let her do the ones here at home.

Besides sickness and appointments, Drew preached a revival three nights this week. Another night we had some friends over for dinner and then we were supposed to go out to eat Friday night with our new church but because Lindy was sick, the kids and I didn’t go.  Finally Saturday we had a big yard sale.  We got rid of a lot of stuff, (including our baby stuff, which was a little sad) and made some money while we were at it.  Phew, and we did all that on little sleep.

Will had a big day on Friday.  He was sitting in his high chair and said something about poo poo in his diaper.  I asked if he did and checked but he hadn’t so I rushed him to the potty and he pooped in the potty!  We were so excited.  We made a big deal of it.  He was pretty proud of himself too.  Not so proud that he has done it again, but proud nonetheless.

Will has been talking up a storm.  One funny thing he said was on Sat. at the yard sale.  We always tell him ‘new friends’ are coming if someone new or someone they haven’t seen in awhile is coming over.  He loves to talk about new friends.  At the yard sale every time a car pulled in he’d say, ‘New friends here.’  In the afternoon we were outside and I said to the kids, “Okay, it’s time to go inside and take a nap.”  Will turns to the 6 people in the garage and says, “Bye bye new friends” and heads inside!  It was too funny.

I didn’t take nearly as many pictures this week as usual but here is what I had on the camera.

So far today she is acting a ton better!  So long fevers.  We hope to never see you again!!!!  Happy Memorial Day!

Sickness and Sun; Fevers and Fun

We went to the beach last week!  yeah.  Except we had to deal with some fever issues with Will.

Our only appointment last week was bright and early Monday morning.  We had hearing with Chris.  Lindy was not into the session last week.  I had to wake her up and it was a dreary, rainy morning and Lindy acted like she was still half asleep.

Our plan was to leave for the beach Tuesday around lunchtime.  But in the middle of Monday night Will cried out and Drew went to check on him.  We discovered he had a fever.  He was in our bed off and on all night.  He woke up Tuesday morning and actually threw up one time and still had a pretty good fever going on.  He laid around all morning and you could tell he didn’t feel well.  We knew there was no way we were leaving for the beach that day.  We kept giving him Tylenol and he laid around.  His temp definitely started spiking in the late afternoon, and by 10pm when I was going to bed I checked and it was 104F.  We put him in bed with us and watched him closely.  Finally after a dose of medicine it started coming back down.

Wednesday morning he acted like he felt fine.  He was running around and having fun so we headed off to the beach.  Late that afternoon though his fever spiked again.  The same thing happened on Thursday.  Acted fine in the mornings, fever spiked in the afternoon.  Finally Thursday afternoon we decided maybe we should have him checked out just to make sure it wasn’t something we should be treating.  Drew took him to Urgent Care and it wasn’t strep throat or his ears.  Just something viral.

His fever did pretty much go away on Friday.  But something still seemed to be wrong with him.  We would go to the beach in the mornings and his nose would start running.  I’m wondering if he was having allergies down there.  Overall he was just not a happy camper.  He didn’t eat well all week as well either.

Despite everything going on we were able to have fun at Oak Island.  My first roommate from college got married in Southport on Friday evening.  A few different college friends stayed with us throughout the weekend.  Thursday evening Heather, Ethan, Lindy and I went to the rehearsal dinner.  Friday evening a girl from our church who is in school at UNCW came down to babysit the kids.  She said they behaved, which made me happy.  The wedding was great fun.  Joanna looked gorgeous and everything was so nice.  The most fun thing at the wedding was a photo booth with a bunch of costumes.   We had so much fun in there!

We headed back to reality Sunday afternoon.  We finally got home after a rather painful ride.  Will didn’t want anything I had to offer him.  Movie, books, toys.  Nothing.  He finally settled down to some Laurie Berkner Band music.  She saved us once again.

We are back and we have one crazy week lined up.  We’re planning on having a garage sale this weekend which we need to get ready for.  And have I mentioned we’re moving???!!!  In less than a month, so all the stresses that come along with that are starting to sneak in on me.  I always get stressed out and everything turns out fine.

Here are some pictures of the beach that will hopefully help me chill out!

Our pitiful sick one last week.DSC_0274 Yeah, the beach!DSC_0280Lindy hated the beach last year and was a little hesitant at first this year.  We gave her a bucket of water and a shovel and she never looked back!  She had a blast walking all over and playing in the sand.  She also discovered she likes to EAT sand.     DSC_0293DSC_0303DSC_0306 Just like last year, they thought the wagon was a great toy.DSC_0311 DSC_0298DSC_0352DSC_0334   DSC_0340Helping bury Ethan in the sand.  Ethan was the ring bearer in our wedding 8 years ago!DSC_0370 DSC_0380 DSC_0382There were great tidal pools that we played in everyday.  It was perfect.  We played in water but didn’t have to worry about them in the big ocean!DSC_0417  Will kept jumping and falling down and splashing.  DSC_0420 DSC_0421 DSC_0423 DSC_0407 DSC_0399 DSC_0435 She wore an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini!DSC_0450 Polka dot girls!DSC_0458 DSC_0465 Will has started taking Lindy’s hand and pulling her places.  DSC_0474 We went for a walk one evening and although this picture looks sweet, they were just head butting each other, trying to get each other off their side of the stroller!DSC_0491 Walking home.DSC_0498 Out for a little ice cream treat Saturday evening.
